The kit is pretty handy for a beginner fish keeper. The tank is nice, the hood too, the fact that it also includes a heater, net, and thermometer! Very nice, especially when most beginners have no clue about anything so they don't know they'll need to buy these - I work at a pet store and I see these issues on a daily. People just buy a tank and then 3 months later come ask me why their fish is dying when there's no filter or water conditioner being used! Outragious but common. Everything in the kit is easy to set up. Though I must say, it is a little hard to see adjust the heater setting because the visibility on the setting strip is slim to none. Use a flashlight, it'll help. My biggest issue with this tank though, is the filter. It's fairly decent at first, besides it being too strong for a lot of fish who would require a 10 gallon. Luckily there's a flow adjuster. However, this filter just won't last you a whole year before it starts losing efficiency. It's barely got any filter media in it either so that's not helping much. At least there's an indicator to know when to change it. I recommend swishing it clean in used tank water that you're about to dump out to help the longevity of the filter media so you don't have to buy replacements as often. But for what it is, this is still a very good kit and you can always upgrade to a much nicer filter for like $40 (a Fluval perhaps). These sets also go on sale for half price fairly often.
