My kids love Elf on a Shelf! We have had our elf for 5 years now. This was first started with my son and now my 5 year old daughter does this. She loves waking up every morning to find her elf friend. She even writes letters to him and behaves better when he’s around. We even have bought the little accessories to go with him. We have a scarf and some booties.
I think Chippy, our elf, comes to visit more for me than for my son. I love setting him up each night and playing hide and go seek each morning. I do however wish they were posable, because they would make it a lot easier to do creative activities with them. The entire brand, however, is solid and well integrated between book, movie and elf accessories.
Okay so last year I got an elf on a shelf for my son (more so me because I thought it was so darn cute) I told boss man it’s for our son even though he was only one when we bought him. BUT anyways we named him Mouse because my son was obsessed with Mickey Mouse at that time. Anyways I’m such a kid when it comes to things like this and I absolutely had an amazing time finding new places to put out elf and getting him into mischief. Our son quickly caught on though and would start looking for Mouse the elf every morning, I can’t wait for this year because our elf is definitely going to get lots of accessories. 😁 I’m kind of a nerd mom. 😂
We have been using the Elf on the Shelf for the past couple of years now. My child is now 5 and was incredibly excited for "Rodney" to return this year. He really helped to reinforce behavioral issues since he is "watching" and could tell Santa what was going on that day. I would suggest to the makers that in the future bendable arms and legs WOULD HELP sooooo much! Posing the little rascal can be difficult at time. Also adding a small piece of Velcro to the arms and legs so that then he/she will stay together (I was using tape at first) would be helpful. The same with the hat he wears because after a year or two the glue wears down. Overall, we love our Elf!! We love all the adventures and messes he gets into.
This is fun at first, but gets old super quickly. You have to make up your mind at the start of the season - is your elf simply going to sit and watch, or are you going to do the elaborate, fun ideas like you see on Pinterest? Please note, once you make this choice, you can't change (or more specifically, once you make your elf do activities, you can't change - your child will come to expect their elf to do fun things, even if it only happens once). I have one of these for my son (I think she's a pixie, technically, but whatever), and while he loves her, I often can't think of or don't have the energy to put into the elaborate schemes.
I was skeptical of the little Elf, but my husband really wanted one for our daughter. He isn't too into traditions, so seeing him look for cool new places for "Dot" to hide in each day was exciting. I can't wait to see her come back from the North Pole next Christmas. Our daughter loved her and was excited each day when she found her new looking spot.
I bought our Elf on the Shelf when my son was 3. This is our second year with that adorable little Elf (named Charlie :)). Every morning, my son searches the house looking for him. The best part is, he is so easy to move around! He is lightweight and can be positioned in so many places all over the house. Charlie is a great member of our family :).
During christmas time my daughter gets so excited knowing her elf is about to come back out to play! Its such a fun thing to do for your child to keep their imagination going! Sometimes mommy forgets to put the elf in a new place... and has to make up a random reason why haha. But i love the idea of the #elfonashelf
My kids absolutely love the elf on the shelf. It's a cute little doll that the kids think comes alive. You the parent can come up with different ideas for the elf to get into mischief. Everyday the elf can do something new. He's watching over the kids and going back to Santa and telling him how the kids acted that day. My family enjoys it and it makes Christmas come faster lol
We love elf on the shelf in our house. Every year when the holidays start getting close my son starts asking about his elf. We move him daily, and allow him to get into minor mischief. The only thing that woke make it even better is if he was more posable. Having wire in his limbs would make him easier to position in fun places.
