I had one of these for my large hamster after I replaced a similar cage in which the only difference was that the ladders were wire. The plastic ladders are much better on their feet, and with the wire ladder cage, my hamster had gotten his foot stuck between the ladder and cage and was hanging by his foot screaming (I didn't even know they did that). Thankfully I was home at the time and able to help him, though I did get bitten in the process, or he could have lost his foot, or even died. This is still not the ideal cage, though I have yet to find the perfect cage, but it is far safer than those with metal ladders and offers more space. My hamster absolutely loved his plastic wheel (again the wire ones are bad for their feet), though he was a larger hamster so I had to purchase him a slightly larger wheel when he got older. Even with the wheel, I would still get the hamster a ball to run around in so that they can get more exercise and get out of their cage from time to time.
