First of all, taste: For a health bar, I thought it was pretty yummy. The bar part reminded me of a Fig Newton bar, just with cranberries in it instead of figs. The berries definitely tasted like real fruit, but they were kind of big - I think I would have liked it if the bar just had small bits of the cranberry mixed in instead of the whole pieces. It took a minute to get used to the texture of the bar - it's not soft, but not crunchy either. Kind of a crumbly, day-old-brownie feel, but I didn't mind too much. I'm very curious what the other flavors taste like.
Size: While the bar is pretty dense, it still didn't feel that filling. I did eat it as part of my breakfast instead of a snack, but I think I would have liked the size to be a little bit bigger. I have tried many different snack bars, and while this is one of the healthiest, it is also one of the smallest. I think I would end up eating two of these if I traded them out for my current snack bar.
And that brings us to value: A dollar is a pretty reasonable amount to expect to spend for a snack bar, however, as I mentioned above, most snack bars are a little bit bigger than this one. Because of the health benefits, I would rather pay a little bit more for this bar in a bigger size (maybe 200 calorie size instead of 140?).
Overall, I did like the bar, I just don't think I'd buy them because of the size. I tend to eat bars like this for breakfast or mid-morning snack and just don't think this would be enough to satisfy me. If they came a little bit bigger, I'd definitely switch to these bars.
Thanks again, Influenster and SoyJoy! :)
The bar is pretty dry. I could instantly tell this when I broke off a piece. This wasn't a negative for me, since I enjoy eating bars that are too soft and squishy. It wasn't hard (I can't stand bars that hurt your teeth just to chew!), just dry. It broke apart easily with no mess. The bar I got to review was the Cranberry one and I thought it was delicious! It very faintly reminded me of those Fig Newtons I used to eat as a kid. And since I've always loved Fig Newtons, this bar was an instant win for me! :-)
When I go to eat a snack, I always appreciate when I can eat and know that what I am putting in my body is good for me (as opposed to eating a cookie or M&Ms as a snack! :-P) This would definitely be a bar I would keep handy to throw in my purse when I am out and about on a busy day.
Putting it in my mouth it felt like I was stuffing my mouth with a piece of cardboard. Biting into it, felt very dry and mealy(made me make a terrible face). As I was chewing it, the soy part started to smoothing out a bit and the cranberries started to over power the flavor, which is better than tasting card board.
I do not think I would buy this product, I think its too many calories (140) for it be a healthy soy product. Looked curious to taste, but did not look appealing to eat. The packaging claims its "Moister & Fruitier", I have to disagree. It claims to have "Natural Flavors with other Natural Flavors"-what other natural flavors are they talking about, because I did not taste anything else. Plus it did not list them. This review is based on the cranberry flavor bar. I would be willing to taste other flavors to differentiate the compilation of flavors and textures.
