I’m trying Shalimar from a mini decant. It's a warm, oriental-amber classic with citrusy top, powdery florals, and a vanilla -woody base. Best for evenings or cool season. Strong and elegant. It's definitely iconic! Would repurchase If I loved vintage fragrance, but definitely a gem in my collection!

As a passionate fragrance enthusiast and collector, I’ve had the privilege of experiencing various iterations of Guerlain’s iconic Shalimar. From the classic 1925 formulation to the contemporary releases, each version offers a unique olfactory journey. The Anniversary Edition, Shalimar L’Essence, presents a refined and modern interpretation that resonates with both longtime admirers and newcomers. Scent Profile: Shalimar L’Essence centers around a rich blend of Madagascar vanilla and ethylvanillin, creating a deep, creamy sweetness that is both comforting and luxurious. Floral notes of rose and iris add a soft, powdery elegance, while modern musks provide a smooth, skin-like finish. This composition offers a warmer, woodier, and slightly leathery evolution of the original, making it a Shalimar for today. Comparison with Vintage Formulations: Having experienced vintage versions of Shalimar, I can attest to the differences in formulation over the years. The original 1925 creation by Jacques Guerlain is often described as more complex and animalic, with a pronounced presence of bergamot, jasmine, and tonka bean. In contrast, Shalimar L’Essence is smoother and more approachable, with a heightened emphasis on vanilla and tonka, making it easier to wear for contemporary tastes. Packaging: The 2025 edition pays homage to its heritage with an Art Deco-inspired bottle. The deep blue glass and golden accents evoke the glamour of the 1920s, while the modern design elements assert a contemporary identity. This blend of tradition and innovation makes the packaging both nostalgic and forward-looking. Longevity and Wear: On my skin, Shalimar L’Essence lasts approximately 6–8 hours, with moderate sillage. It’s a fragrance that envelops you in a warm, intimate aura without being overpowering. This makes it suitable for both day and evening wear, adapting well to various occasions. Final Thoughts: Owning and wearing multiple versions of Shalimar has been a delightful experience, allowing me to appreciate the evolution of this legendary fragrance. Shalimar L’Essence stands as a testament to Guerlain’s ability to honor tradition while embracing modernity. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or new to the world of fine fragrances, this edition offers a compelling and elegant addition to any collection.
