Sometimes prefer these or something similar to freshen up a room over a spray or candle. Great simple smell and improves scent of room.

Let me start by saying that I think these work much better as an odor neutralizer than an air freshener. As many others have said, these really don't give off much of a scent unless you smell it directly. So I'm not really sure why it's marketed as an air freshener, but I know they work well for odor neutralization. I keep one near my cats' litter box, my ferret's cage, in the kitchen, and in my linen closet. The only time I really smell it is in the linen closet, because it's literally such a small space and the door is kept closed. For the bathroom, I use Febreze Small Spaces, as those work much better for actually giving off a scent. But these definitely work well to keep unwanted odors down. It was a noticeable difference cooking with oil in the winter when we can't open the windows once I put this in the kitchen!!
