QuickFinder Quickfinder Nail...

The sensor in this does not work effectively and the clipping mechanism is too weak for bigger dogs. This professional groomer does NOT recommend guillotine style clippers. The guillotine motion of cutting can split your dog's nails up the center. Not to mention, you have to maneuver the nails into the small hole in order to cut them.. Every single one. If your dog is a little wiggly the nail can get caught up in the hole and make the whole ordeal a lot more traumatizing than necessary. Scissor style clippers are much safer and easier for all involved. If you're worried about the quick (the vein inside), Petsmart only charges 9 bucks to clip them for you professionally.
Great do the cats nails. When I use them I cut my cats nails from the side to keep them from splitting.
As a pet groomer I've heard MANY horror stories from clients that have used this. I had a client tell me that they used it and ended up hitting the bloodline and thought her poor dog was going to die because she was bleeding like crazy. The sensor doesn't work properly and it doesn't cut through thicker nails on larger breeds. With the money you spent on this thing you can go to your local grooming shop or even Petco, petsmart and have your dogs nails cut for a small price and not have to panic that you cut the bloodline of your pet.
This is the best thin they ever came out with! My husband has many a times cut the blood part of the nail and then the dogs don't trust him anymore and practically have to lay on them to keep them down to cut their nails.. this is so wonderful and everyone should have one for their "fur babies"..
I used these on my 40 pound dog for a while and they were ok, just hard to get the nail short enough. I have a 60 pound rescue who was abused and I finally got him to let me do his nails. It broke in the middle of clipping the first nail and hurt him. I haven't used another one since. I switched to a dremel tool to file them down.
This was probably the worst product I have ever bought for my cats. It is cumbersome and difficult to use. I'm not sure why we haven't seen smaller more user friendly designs that still incorporate the sensor.
This is horrible for large breed dogs. They are not strong enough to cut cleanly through the nail, instead they crush & splinter the nail, causing pain for your dog. As if that wasn't bad enough, the light sensor is completely unreliable, giving false readings the majority of the time.
I don't think these are meant for dogs that weigh more than like 10 pounds. Any bigger and the dog's nails are way too hard and this tool is not strong enough to quickly and cleanly cut the nail.
The "professional" ones for large dogs are better for bigger breeds. But for cats and small dogs, the quickfinder one works well.
These work great if the claws are small, i.e. if you have a small dog. The thicker the claws are the harder it is for this to work correctly.
We initially bought a grinder with a length guard, but it was so slow, it was painful. We thought this would be a good alternative, as we were concerned about catching the quick; it was also an attractive cost saving idea versus taking the dog to a groomer to have his claws clipped.
It worked okay the first time we tried it - it was fiddly and took awhile to get the hang of, but it worked. Unfortunately, the second time we tried it, it was reading green (safe to cut) no matter where we held it - even AWAY from the dog: too much of a risk, so we took it back. We'll pay a professional to do it now.
