This reel is fantastic for both saltwater and freshwater use. I have used in in both catching anything from the black drum see in the image to catfish in fresh water ponds. I currently have it on my surf fishing combo (which is this reel paired with the Penn Pursuit Rod), so I am very comfortable saying that it can handle a great deal of salt.
