Most of the colors seem really extreme. are there any natural-looking or my-lips-but-better type shades?

The peachy one didn't look natural on me but others looked great!

Yes the light pinks are not as bright as they seem!

There are a lot of neutral or less intense looking shades such as Clockwork, Ophelia, Annika, Interlace, Divine, Grandma, Kava Kava, Hush, etc. You can also use some of the more vibrant colors and just apply them very thin / sheer to look like more of a tinted lip gloss. :)

Yes! They have amazing neutrals. My mother even came close to buying one - and she does not like unnatural shades.

Yes! they have some beautiful neutrals.. some of my favorite are interlace, memento, and hush! they also make a white lip tar that you can mix into any other colors or lipsticks you already have to make them lighter/ more neutral!

It really depends on what will work with your skin tone but there are several natural looking colors to choose from. The beauty of these are the ability to mix them to make a color work better for you if you need to. Black (tarred) lip tar and White (feathered) are great for deepening or lightening colors. You have to remember that originally, MUA's coveted these for the ability to customize them for their clients...it made lipstick application (and the number of lip products you had to have on you at one time) easier when having to deal with a range of skin tones and color needs).

Melange or memento are my favorites! They are both neutrals. Melange has a tan beige undertone while memento has more of a warm mid tone pink undertone. Both are beautiful if you want to try the OCC range without being too bold.

Ophelia looks gorgeous on a multitude of skin shades. It's a "your lips but better" color!
