Sweet basil essential oil has a warm, spicy, herbaceous and fiery top note and smells like the fresh herb. The sweetness of this basil essential oil is due to the linalool content, the high methyl chavicol content gives it a spicy aroma. We chose this variation over one with less methyl chavicol content because the spicier scent is much more preferable while it still retains it's sweetness. Because of the species and where it was cultivated, it has a somewhat anise type bite. It is a stimulating aroma and could be considered an aroma that can help you wake up. Because of it's pleasing scent, it is a fantastic addition to perfume blends. When used in blends, care should be taken to start off with a small amount as basil essential oil can easily overpower a blend. This is another oil where a little goes a long ways in terms of scent when mixing with other oils.
