First off I started brewing with this and have tried multiple different brews from Cooper who owns Mr. Beer and have gotten some really great beers even putting my own spin on it. I have people love trying the beers from me when I make them and for the money as an easy hobby you can't go wrong. I actually have made a Cerveza Lime beer which blows Corona away and on top of it added a bit more of a twist by adding a shot of Tequila to a couple batches before bottling and have people asking me to make it for them. I don't use the plastic bottles went to glass and capping. Use sugar not the carbo drops but their ingredients are good. It's meant to be fun and if done right you will enjoy making it.

I work in the brew industry and can tell you for a fact that you are wasting your money if you buy this! The product that you make will not be that classic craft beer taste. I agree that you get what you pay for.. a nice kit can be about $100, and you will be able to reuse the kit countless times and just buy the ingredients needed after that point but at least you will have a product to be proud of. This Beer kit here has turned many people away from brewing because they believe that they can't make a good beer after trying to make this. Don't believe that you can't make something wonderful! Spend the extra money and get a real beer in the end!

If you want to get into the home-brewing trend that's so hot right now, look up a local beer / wine supply specialty store in your area and go talk to the people there! They'll be able to answer your questions and get you started the right way! You can usually buy starter kits in places like these too - they're a bit more expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for! If you want to make a crappy beer with sub-par ingredients in a weird gimmicky plastic barrel, then the Mr. Beer kit is for you, otherwise...skip this one for real! Do, and you'll thank yourself later - you'll begin a masterful career in making your own beer that you'll actually want to drink - and so will all your friends and family!!! Brew with a friend or loved one for a fun special bond!

Mr Beer is the go to kit for people who are interested in brewing. Sadly, the kit tends to yield sub par beer clouded with sediment not good enough to ever serve to others with a clear conscience. This is not saying that it's impossible to brew decent beer with a Mr Beer kit, but your chances are low if you are a first timer, and if you're buying a Mr Beer're probably a first timer. The thing is, quality beer kits are not very expensive, and the biggest difference is the glass carboy (good kit) vs the plastic fermentation vessel (Mr Beer). These better kits can be found as cheap as $45-$50, roughly $15 or so more than Mr Beer. Put in the extra cash and you will see much better quality results. Look at both beer kits and wine kits tend to have everything you need for beer. The important things to look for are a glass carboy (with an airlock), a raking cane and siphon tube, and a hydrometer.

I suppose that this could be somewhat of an ok purchase if you're buying it as a gift for someone that you know isn't all that into homebrewing and will likely only use it that once.

Otherwise, if you REALLY want a ready-to-go kit, check into the Brooklyn Brew Shop's options. Best way to go is looking up a local homebrewing store and letting them help you get everything you need.

I got this for my husband for Christmas a couple years ago. We have made a few batches. Not too shabby for homemade beer. It's fun to do together and when the beer is fermented it is always nice to try the finished product.

For that much money go to your local home brew shop and get a 5 gallon starter kit and ingredients. It will all be much better quality and you'll be able to make larger batches when you're ready.

I bought this for my husbands 30th birthday 5 years ago and he used this once! It is now sitting in our garage still in the original box... The setup sounds neat but that's about it. It's not really worth the money or the wait.

This is a great kit for someone just starting out making beer. The actual beer it makes is alright. It's by no means a craft beer, but it's a fun DIY with your spouse

I bought this for my husband as a Valentine's Day gift about 4 years ago.... needless to say, we've never used it. After reading reviews of the quality of beer it produces, we figured it would just be for mementos.
