Review for: Smokey Jade, Cruel Ruby more...
I received these lipsticks to review, and after my last Maybelline product I was a bit nervous. I received cruel ruby and concrete jungle. I first tried cruel ruby, because I am a HUGE red lipstick fan. I wear reds on the regular. I found it decent to apply. Plenty of pigment with one swipe. Although, I will point out your lips need to be completely bare when applying. I have a lip scrub that moisturizes and had some residual product on when I tried my first pass and nothing showed up. While applying to the entire surface of the lips, I was fine: however, if I needed to clean up a line, I couldn't do it with the lipstick because it tugged a bit and needed to use a lip brush. Not that big of a deal, but I do have other non-liquid lipsticks that I can get a precise line without using a lip brush because of how creamy the other lipsticks are in comparison to this semi dry one. The wear was good. It felt lightweight but not overly drying. I did have to re apply and it layered very well, but be careful because it tugs a bit. This product could be used with or without a liner, it's personal preference. I wouldn't necessarily call this is true matte finish, which is very misleading. It's more of a velvet finish, which I enjoy, but had I spent my coin on this looking for a matte lipstick, I would have been disappointed due to the transfer that happened and the fact it was a bit smudgier than a true matte would be. The second color, I did not get as much pigment from the first pass, but that was okay. I found it to be patchier than the red, so you had to fight with it a bit more to get the color pay off and clean application. I personally didn't wear this color more than once because it wasn't super complimentary to my skin tone. Overall, this product is fine for what it is. I wouldn't call this a Matte at all.... but I like it. I wish this wasn't only sold in its bold shades. It's not a terrible product, but I think there are other options in this price point that apply easier and are actually matte.

Review for: Smokey Jade, Cruel Ruby more...
Creamy ,smooth and perfectly pigmented are the words that come to mind when applying the long lasting powder mattes in “cruel ruby “and “smoky jade”. Fresh , clean and elegant is how I would describe the sleek new packaging of this new Maybelline brand. As a girl who struggles to find a red that goes with my skin tone , I am obsessed with the fact that cruel ruby is defiantly the one for me. I do tend to stick to nudes and glosses and if I do a lipstick I tend toward liquid as I find them less drying Especially matte lipsticks ,BUT, the powder mattes are so creamy that they feel like a thick balm that keeps my lips moisturized and I am shocked at how long lasting and clean these colors stay. I hardly venture out of my comfort zone when it comes to lip color but I gave Smokey jade a chance and a fair one at that , I wore both the colors on two separate days for about 12 hours each , during the two days I went about normal life activities including eating and drinking , and I found that obviously they needed a bit of a touch up but that is to be expected and I love that with just one glide I was ready to go , no cleaning up necessary as they are sharp colors that don’t smudge but rather swipe on and off easily. I am crazy about cruel ruby , this shade of red compliments my olive skin tone to the tee and goes with just about any look from day to night , I felt confident and fierce wearing cruel ruby and she will defiantly become part of my look ,on the other hand Smokey jade just isn’t for me and my everyday image , the product itself is gorgeously creamy and super pigmented so for product and the actual color it gets a 10/10 from me but the product on, just doesn’t suit what I go for but overall I rate the new powder mattes by Maybelline 11/10 and I cannot wait for what’s to come and to test out the other colors. A tip that I live by when applying any lipstick especially matte would be to use a scrub to get rid of any dead skin as the product will intensify the appearance of chapped lips , so exfoliate and moisturize before application so that the product can dry on an even surface and make the lips look luxurious instead of dry .

So for starters I want to say I can't fully give this a concrete review because I received two shades I personally would never wear.  Red lipstick just doesn't look good with my skin tone in my opinion and the dark blue is just SO dark I couldn't see myself pulling it off.  I may come back later to properly review the Cruel Ruby since I gave it to my mom, it's definitely in her shade range.  Upon applying the Smokey Jade (a dark gunmetal blue), I learned you cannot apply it over lip balm.  I have very dry lips naturally and applying this over a chapstick results in a streaky, thin application.  These matte lipsticks feel very drying on the lips, so to combat my already dry lips we don't work together well at all.  The Cruel Ruby looks like a beautiful red especially for this time of year with the holidays.  Something I couldn't see with my eye, when wiping it off it's a pinkish red.  Wiping it off it actually looks super pink rather than red, but on the lips it is red.  I am a true nude lipstick only wearer, so these two shades are way out of range for me and totally different than what I would go for.  I feel the Cruel Ruby would have a rough wear test, just applying it I had some feathering already but then again, i'm not used to having such a careful hand when applying lipstick since I usually stick to light colors.  I think this would be a good product for someone who likes and can wear these shades, and doesn't struggle with already dry lips.   Maybelline Color Sensational® Powder Matte Lipstick

I recieved these lipsticks (Cruel Ruby & Smoky Jade) in a complimentary VoxBox and was both pleasantly surprised and disappointed.
Let me start off by saying the product is misleading. These lipsticks are anything but matte, and in fact have a creamy, almost glossy finish that doesn't dry, but the color pigment in the red is beautiful and doesn't get patchy. However, because the lipstick doesn't dry to a matte finish, it kept coming off on silverware and cup edges. Super cute. The red was easy to apply once I used a lip liner, and again was beautiful, but not matte. It even flattered my skin tone and I'm a natural redhead.
Smoky Jade was a bit.. difficult. The shade itself is gorgeous, and it didn't make me look too dead, which was a surprise because I have green/yellow undertones, but the application was terrible. For some reason, it is way less pigmented so I had to apply several coats. After just a few minutes, it began to get patchy and cling to every crease in the lip. I had absolutely no idea what lip liner to use with it, so I didn't, and it definitely bled.
The colors are beautiful, but the name is misleading. I'll continue wearing Cruel Ruby nonetheless, but Smoky Jade won't see much use.

I was really hesitant about testing the smoky jade and cruel ruby because they're such bold shades... but I can say with 100% surety that all concerns went away after the first application. The formula is both creamy and smooth as advertised and it applies super well - adding enough pigment from the first swipe to be satisfied, but also allowing as much buildable coverage as you prefer. They're awesome. I'd assume the darker shades are similar to the cruel ruby meaning they're lasting power seems a little better than the lighter shades. But the smoky jade was *suprisingly* still my favorite. It goes on thinly but not so thin that you can't see it. Applying more than one layer adds depth to the color picking up on blue, green and gray shades depending on skin tone. Overall, super fun and amazing quality. I'd recommend the Maybelline powder mattes to any other who is looking for comfortable wear with an edgy look. The sexy matte black packaging was also an aesthetic plus! Okay, first of all. This packaging has me so shook. The matte, gunmetal/grey blue color is so aesthetic. It’s so sexy to be honest haha!

Now, for the actual project! I’m typically not a big fan of traditional lipsticks. I’m a liquid lipstick type of girl. However, these were not too bad. Very pigmented and they were easy to apply on the lips. I do recommend priming the lips first! I typically use the Lush lip scrub and then a hydrating chapstick after to get the lips nice, smooth and plump before application.

I do have to say that they’re soo pigmented! Cruel Ruby is my favorite out of the two I received mainly because it’s your very traditional “hot babe” type of red; it is just slightly spicy- in a sense that the red is much more rich, sultry perhaps! It’s a definitely more sophisticated red.

The Smokey Jade was also very nice and pigmented! It’s just not typically a shade I would buy; however a nice piece to add to my collection for when I feel a little experimental!

Overall I LOVE these lipstick lines. The reason I’m giving it a 4 is because the application process is so smooth and buttery. I prefer this over the other brands I typically invest in. Not bad Maybelline😜🌙💕

I tested out the Maybelline powder matte with no liner and completely on its on. I received this product as a complimentary item for testing purposes. I would first like to say this review is based on a first impressions and a 6 hour long wear test. I reviewed the claims via Maybelline’s website and they only state that it has “2xs more mattifying powders” This product for me personally would be a 5 Star product if I had used it differently. I loved the way it stayed on and did not budge even through dinner and shopping after. It was great and lasted so much longer than regular lipsticks! The only problem I had with it was the face that it was somewhat drying, this problem is easily fixed with a more moisturizing balm before use. For best results let the balm soak in while doing your make up, then apply the lipstick at the end of your beauty routine. I did not use a very moisturizing lip product ahead of time like with my other mattes due to the fact that I could not find it. I think this product is excellent otherwise for someone who wants lasting lipstick without the hassle of a liquid lip this is phenomenal!! So easy to apply and stays put!

I received this product in my first ever complimentary Influenster Vox Box; however, all opinions are my own. In my box I got the shades "Smokey Jade and "Cruel Ruby". The green-grey shade "Smokey Jade" is surprisingly not as unwearable of a color as you may think. I was excited to try it out. However, unfortunately, when I applied this color I had a hard time getting an even layer. It was too patchy and hard to apply. The shade "Cruel Ruby" is a BEAUTIFUL red shade that I think would be suitable for a lot of skin tones. Overall, these both were a little too unforgiving for my lips. (The red shade definitely more forgiving than the green-grey.) For anyone wondering, these are NOT transfer proof. If you have smooth lips and are a fan of matte formulas give the "Cruel Ruby" shade a go. Personally, I prefer something a little less drying. I will be holding on to the "Cruel Ruby" shade for a season where my lips are a little more forgiving.

I’ve seen quite a few red lipsticks in my lifetime just as anyone else has. This lipstick is a really nice formula and it feels really comfortable to wear on the lips unlike a lot of other matte liquid lipsticks that are drying and flakey. I find that I don’t really have to apply this that often and for a drugstore brand it performs like a high-end product. It smells really nice too, which I know isn’t a huge factor, but I really really do like the way it smells. Influencer was kind enough to send me this shade Cruel Ruby along with Smokey Jade, and while both of the colors are pretty, I do believe there is discrepancy between shades. Smoky Jade was a little patchy and streaky and you had to work more to build the product up. It still had gorgeous color pay off, but prefer how Cruel Ruby wears better. Overall, I really do enjoy this lipstick and I will be using it more often. Thank you to Influenster for sending me this product.

Cruel Ruby is a gorgeous deep red, similar to one of my Nars matte velvet pencils (Cruella). I didn't find the shade too drying, although I did think it wasn't very long-lasting (if I drank anything, it would come off on the glass) and was difficult to apply. I ended up using a lip brush to apply on second application, as it was easy to get outside the line of my lips. Color is great, but I've definitely found other lip colors that get the formula better.

I know strange colors is the point of this line, but I found the smokey jade to be really odd and definitely NOT wearable. Gonna keep it around until Halloween to see if it's usable, but even then I don't think I'm daring enough to wear it on a normal basis... and the color just completely washed me out and looked awful. Might work for some people.
