This is another installation into the Funkoverse sets of strategy games and is great for strategy game enthusiasts and Marvel fans. The gameplay takes some time to understand but once you do, it’s very easy and fun to play. The adorable Funkos (Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther & Black Widow) that come with the game, the double sided thick cardboard game board (Shuri’s Wakanda Lab & the S.H.E.I.L.D. Helicarrier) and character specific special actions (e.g., Captain America’s “I could do this all day”) go perfectly with the Marvel theme. There is a “chase” limited edition of this game that has a metallic purple and steel grey Black Panther Funko; the standard version of Black Panther is matte black and white. The recommended age is 10+ but if you have kids under 10 that have played turn based tactical strategy scrimmage games, they could probably play this game. (Some other sets like the POP! Funkoverse Board Game Game of Thrones #100 Base Set are 13+ but that may be due to the game theme.) Out of the box, you can play this as a 2 player/team game using 2-3 characters each (2 Funkos vs. 2 Funkos, or 2 Funkos & 1 basic (disc) character vs. 2 Funkos 1 basic (disc) character), or as a 4 player/team game (1 Funko & 1 basic (disc) character vs. 1 Funko & 1 basic (disc) character vs. 1 Funko & 1 basic (disc) character vs. 1 Funko & basic character). There are 4 different game scenarios you can play — 2 two-player/team games and 2 four-player/team games (which could also be played as two player/team game). This particular game also includes two “bonus objectives” which can add another goal to the game scenario; these bonus objectives power up the characters’ abilities if obtained during the game. The game play (not counting the time to learn how to play) can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on how quickly you move your pieces. You can even use different Funkos from other Funkoverse games. For example, if you play this with the Funko Funkoverse: Marvel 101 Board Game Expansion Multi which allows you to add a Thanos Funko, you can play an Infinity War scenario where three Funkos go up against one Ultimate Thanos, or have Thanos as a regular character as part of a team of 2 or 3. When mixing Funkos from other Funkoverse game sets, you could even have a team with Wonder Woman (DC Expandalone), Rose Nylund (Golden Girls Expandalone) & Daenerys Targaryen (Game of Thrones Base Set) vs. the Raptor (Jurassic Park Base Set), Marty McFly (Back to the Future Expandalone) & Iron Man (Marvel Base Set). If you’re on the fence, watch some of the game play videos online to see if you want to join in on the fun!
