People always say Lancôme and L’Oréal are owned by the same company and have similarities and at first review it appeared that way. The stark white packaging almost mirrors each other, the wand is similar, and the thick, pigmented white product appears the same.
When I put the Lancôme product on my lashes, it extends them sometimes 100% in length or more. It seems to bind to my lash and because of this I am able to add Almost ANY mascara on top of this (while still wet). The primer stays put while the mascara builds even more length on top of it. The black pigment covers the white primer while extending just a bit more. The result is long, separated lashes.
Trying out the L’Oréal product this week, it seemed to work the same way. The white primer extends the lashes (although the formula doesn’t seem to have the same polymer stretching ability), but it does a nice job covering and lengthening. The problem is when I go to add my mascara on top of the primer. Unlike the Lancôme version which binds to the lash and continues to lengthen the lashes- the new layer of mascara seems to disrupt the layer of primer. Instead of working together to stretch and lengthen the product, it totally disrupts the primer and just does not have the same lengthening effect.
I’m not an expert on many things, but After using Lancôme’s product for over 15 years- i am a stickler for a good primer.
If you are buying it to protect and condition your lashes- you will probably be happy with this product.
If you are buying it to lengthen your lashes, you will probably like it as well.
However, if you are buying it as a dupe of Lancôme’s primer- you are wasting your money.
It’s not a bad product. In fact, i will probably use up the bottle because I don’t have the money to buy Lancôme’s primer right now- i might even use it for daytime wear and save the other for special occasions, but although it is a nice product, THIS IS NOT A DUPE for Lancôme Cils Booster XL Super-Enhancing Mascara Base
Update: I coated my lashes and let them dry and then layered my mascara on. I did notice a difference this way and so I’ve added a star; however, It doesn’t feel nice to work your mascara over the dried coating and i still prefer Lancôme’s lash primer.
I have tried so many products trying to get thickness and length.. Everywhere from liquid mascara primers to the fiber lash products.. This one is my favorite hands down.
Your end result is beautiful longer and thicker lashes.
