I knew the lemon would be a hit or miss and I’m happy to report it’s a huge hit! It isn’t too overpowering, it simply gives the vibe of dessert and tricks your mind into thinking you’re eating lemon meringue pie and not a date nut bar. Magical work!
If you’re looking for a bar with clean ingredients this is a great option. It is essentially a date and nut bar with lemon flavoring. Personally, I am looking for a 200 calorie nut based bar to have more protein than this bar has. I love that the ingredients are super clean but I’d reach for other clean bars with higher protein over this one. Lemon flavor is good but not great compared to some of their other options.
As a college student running from class to class with workouts in between, I often need a convenient source of quick-digesting carbs to eat on the go. Larabars are a great option - they're portable, tasty, and come in a variety of fun flavors, ranging from rich and decadent (Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough or Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip come top of mind) to fruity and refreshing (e.g Lemon Bar and Apple Pie). As for the flavor of this one, it's really good! The sort of "stodginess" of the bar's texture lends itself well to replicating a true lemon bar. The only ingredients are dates, cashews, almonds, lemon juice concentrate, dried lemon juice concentrate, and lemon oil (I don't really know what this is), resulting in the perfect combination of sweetness and acidity. At 45 grams and 200 calories, these definitely aren't "low-calorie" for the volume (I believe this is a medium amount of calories for a Larabar), but a good portion of the calorie content comes from the dates, which are a nutrient-dense food, as well as healthy fats from things like chocolate and nuts. I have yet to try a bad Larabar - some flavors are better at replicating desserts than others, but with very little (if any) added sugars, natural ingredients, and a fairly good price (you can generally get them at around $1-1.50 a bar depending on where you buy them and if you buy them in bulk - a 16-pack of these is on sale for $13 on Amazon right now, but I think it's usually around $16), I think this is a great bar (especially if you like lemony desserts), but I would personally choose some other flavors over this one!
