As a college student running from class to class with workouts in between, I often need a convenient source of quick-digesting carbs to eat on the go. Larabars are a great option - they're portable, tasty, and come in a variety of fun flavors, ranging from rich and decadent (Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough or Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip come top of mind) to fruity and refreshing (e.g Lemon Bar and Apple Pie). These Peacn Pie-inspired bars are only 3 ingredients: dates, pecans, and almonds. At only 45 grams and 220 calories, these definitely aren't "low-calorie" for the volume (they're actually the most calorically-dense Larabar flavor), but a good portion of the calorie content comes from the dates, which are a nutrient-dense food, as well as healthy fats (14g) from the nuts. Also, this flavor works really well in that the dense sweetness of the dates combined with the crunch of the pecans and almonds really does remind me of pecan pie filling! Just a side note: upon opening the bar, there was a good amount of oil at the bottom of the package, probably from the nuts. Right now, a 16-pack is retailing on Amazon for around $30, which comes out to just under $2 a bar, but you can often find them on sale for cheaper, which is pretty affordable for a kosher, vegan, dairy/gluten/soy-free, non-GMO snack! Overall, this is a fun flavor for an energy bar, and something I'll consider purchasing again in the future.
