When we sat down to watch this movie, there were some skeptics among the group. To be honest one or two really had no desire to see the movie. I told them it was based on a book (which I had not read) and it was supposed to be a great movie. Usually, I read the books before I see the movie, but with the viewing party turn around time, I opted for the movie first. Get ready for a movie full of emotions, drama, romance and suspense. At times you will be biting your nails! Kate Winslet was wonderful in this film. She was excellent as tormented, depressed mother who was struggling to take care of her son, let alone herself. You actually connect with her in this film and feel her sorrow as you learn her back story. After Winslet's character allows escaped convict Frank Chambers to come home with her and Henry the story really unfolds. We learn so much more about Frank. He is not just an escaped convict, but a man with a sorrowful past. His child accidentally drowns in a bathtub and during an argument he accidentally kills his wife. He doesn't seem to be a hardened criminal, but a man wanting a fresh start. He could of caused harm to Adele and Henry, but instead helps around the house, fixes the car, cleans the gutters, bakes a peach pie and teaches the Henry and the neighbor boy who is in a wheelchair how to play baseball. You honestly begin to root for Frank and Adele. Henry is just a boy who adores his mother and longs for the father who although is in his life is basically absentee. He narrates this story about the few happy days during Labor Day weekend, the days he would like to remember from an otherwise unhappy childhood. You realize really what kind of effect those days with Frank had on him at the end of the film. I really went into this movie not knowing what to expect. Yet, it was a bit slow at times, but it was an extremely well written and acted film. The ending is amazing and makes you believe in second chances, no matter if it is a year later or 25 years later! Here are a couple of my favorite quotes: "A better man would of stayed" -Henry's father to Henry about leaving his mother "I am stronger than I look" - Adele to Frank after she learns he is a convict Disclosure: I got #LaborDayMovie from @ParamountMovies for hosting a viewing party! No other forms of compensation was received

Really quick, I received the Peach Pie Car Freshener from the Labor Day movie from Influenster complimentary. The freshener is a joke. It doesn't smell at all, but really cute nonetheless. BUT!! I was highly intrigued as to why Influenster was putting all this hype into the Labor Day movie. I went out that same day to Wal-Mart and purchased the DVD for $12.99. That's a great deal for a DVD, am I right? I watched the movie last night and wow! I am quite amazed at how it turned out. It was rather slow to begin with, and I wasn't sure what to expect. I quickly became enthralled with the plot, Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin's performance. And wow, the boy who plays Kate's son in the movie is so talented for being such a young age. Kate's character is a depressed woman raising her son alone. Her character is so mentally disturbed by entering the world, for reasons the audience isn't aware of to begin with, but one day she goes shopping and her world completely changes. An escaped convict talks Kate's character and her son into driving him to their home so he can heal his wound. During the weekend that the convict is in the home, the reasons of why Kate's character is depressed is revealed, as well as the reasons the convict was in jail. It's so well written and so greatly put together. There are flashbacks intertwined in the actual time-frame of Frank, played by Josh Brolin, of his past where you learn more about what has happened to him. I will tell you this, you'll want to hate Frank, but you just can't. It's a romantic, sweet love story that anyone will fall in love with. You will truly believe in love again. This is a must see! Also--if you only received the car freshener from in your SpringVoxBox get up and go buy Labor Day! All the products in your voxbox make up the moneys spent to get this movie.

I received this movie complimentary from Influenster to host a viewing party. We were all pretty skeptical at first because the music and story line seemed so dark for a romance. But as the movie progressed we were all more drawn in. There were some odd parts of the movie where I felt a little confused but overall it was really good. I loved Frank, Adele and Henry (Hank). Life was very different no farther back than the 80's and I think the cast and Author all did a great job of showing us that. There was quite a bit of talk about s-e-x and while that doesn't bother me, I was watching with my mother-in-law and husband's step-mother so it was a bit awkward at times. Our emotions definitely ran the gamut during this movie with some fear and uncertainty in the beginning, then sadness, humor, confusion and conflict. My husband ended up watching it with us and even he said he really liked it.

I received a complimentary copy of the movie from Paramount Pictures and Influenster for testing purposes. I confess when I first saw the poster for the movie, I first thought it was a straight up Romance flick. Man, I can’t tell you how wrong I was! Yes, it’s Romance, but there’s quite a bit of Dramatic Suspense mixed in. When Josh’s character popped out the way he did, I knew right off the bat that whatever I’d thought beforehand about the movie was shot out the window. Truthfully, I’m glad. Why, you might ask? Because it made the movie all the more appealing when the suspenseful parts started picking up. We got to witness two broken people coming together in such a way that left you breathless and wanting more by the time the movie ended. Granted, the movie started off slow, but don’t let that hinder your watching it. You’re going to want to keep your eyes glued to the screen. Thanks so much to Paramount Pictures and Influenster for allowing me to host the viewing party for the movie, and allowing us to experience the movie to its fullest.

"Labor Day" is a deeply touching testament to true love and the unexpected ways we can find it. Adele, played by Kate Winslet, is a single mom struggling with severe depression and her son Henry has to take care of himself and his mother since she has difficulties leaving the house. One day, on a trip to the supermarket, Henry and Adele's lives change forever when they meet a man named Frank who is on the run from the law. Intimidated by the stranger, Adele agrees to help the man despite the fact that he is a wanted fugitive. Over the course of the next four days, Adele and Frank fall deeply in love, something that the two of them never thought they would experience again. However, things get complicated as the man-hunt continues and they realize that they don't have many options left. I am absolutely in love with this film. It is so powerful and takes a new look at love and the second chances people can have. "Labor Day" is so incredible - every aspect of the movie mixes together perfectly to create a work of art. The visuals are incredible because the scenes are all relatively simple, but each shot is so sensory oriented that it allows the audience to experience what it was like for the character. The locations, costumes and set design are so authentic, and the soundtrack is very fitting for the film and it all comes together to create the perfect the perfect experience. The acting in this film is phenomenal. There are very few characters and minimal dialogue, so everything is conveyed primarily through simple facial expression and the amazing film work. Kate Winslet does a superb job in this role and is able to communicate more emotions with her technique of subtle expressions than words ever could. Josh Brolin portrayal of Frank is absolutely perfect. He's able to break down the stereotypes placed on his character in the beginning of the film and shows that there is always more to the story than what is on the surface. I also think Gattlin Griffith, who plays Adele's son Henry, shows his characters struggle of having to be the "man" of the house in a very powerful way. You get the sense that he is terrified about what could happen to his family - his mother and himself - once Frank enters the picture, but he still tries to be strong. I love watching his character develop as Henry realizes that Frank might just be the best thing to ever happen to him and his mother. There are so many moments in the film where it seems as if something is going to go terribly wrong for the couple and the suspense of waiting to see what will play out adds an unexpected element of fear to the film. Kate, Josh and Gattlin are fantastic at giving the sense of not knowing what will happen to them in the near future and it really raises the stakes for the family. Something else that I love about this film is how throughout the movie there are short flashbacks of the past and it is done in such a way that it is hard to tell whose past it is. I think this is neat because it shows that Adele and Frank are more alike than it seems and it is a miracle that they found each other. "Labor Day" is so touching that by the end of the film I was crying harder than I have at a movie in a really long time. It was so incredibly beautiful to see how love can endure no matter what trials surface and no matter how long people are apart. I'd like to believe that everyone can find a love like that and this movie shows that no matter how hurt you have been, there is always another chance for love. I recommend this movie for ages 13 to 18 because it is very emotional and a bit mature so it may be challenging for younger kids to understand the storyline fully. Overall I give "Labor Day" 5 out of 5 stars because it made me laugh, cry, and it tugged on my heart strings.

A story that's been done before, but with a twist. I loved the back story on Frank and Adele. You always end up feeling like you left a movie really knowing the characters when they take the time to tell you a bit about their life before the real-time events. I do love a romance and this one had so much more...sweet, tender moments, heart-wrenching moments, anxiety inducing moments, tear jerking moments...I love a complex movie, and while the movie itself wasn't complex, it had all the emotional aspects I love to feel like it rates an A. I got this digital download free from Influenster and Paramount Pictures for review.

I don't usually watch romance movies and I was pleased that this wasn't a melodramatic, sticky sweet one. It was as much about the relationship between the son and his mother as about the romance. In fact, it was more about the absence of romance and the importance of love. It reminded me of bittersweet movies that my mom liked to watch when I was little, only without the tragic ending... I received a complimentary download from Influenster, which is great because I am not sure I would have rented this otherwise and it would be a shame to miss it. A quiet but affecting film.

Got the Peach Pie Car Freshener from the Labor Day Movie free from my spring box — Super cute!! Love how girly and detailed the print is.. but phew! It's really strong for me. Probably the migraine thing again. But I'd keep this little guy hanging after the scent wears off cause it's so cute. And I need to rent this movie on Redbox SOON. Pretty cool idea to promote the movie, even though I don't know how Peach Pie plays into the film.. but then again I need to watch it! Kate Winslet is gorgeous, love when her hair is red!

I had heard only a bit about this movie as we don't subscribe to cable. I was invited to the Labor Day twitter party and also received a nice Peach air freshener courtesy of Influenster in my Spring Voxbox. I ended up loving the movie! Even though it was just me and my napping toddler enjoying the movie, I enjoyed it. It is a bit different than other love flicks I've seen and that made me like it even more. I'm definitely going to have to get the book this is based on and give it a shot.
