Carbon Monoxide alarms are a lot different then fire alarms, and even if your home does not use gas you should still have them placed in common areas including outside bedrooms where you would be able to hear the alarm & be awoken. I have a different version that is screwed into the wall but I bought this one bc I liked how your can be plugged in & have a battery as backup, whereas most only use batteries. It is extremely portable & easy to place in different areas when it may come into use, especially in the bedroom where the extremely bad load alarm will wake you up which is what the loudness is intended to do. I recommend this type for those who travel or who have children in their homes & want the extra peace of mind which the display box shows the current number and it also has a button to use if you want to look up the last highest recorded number. Staying w family who don't have any & use gas appliances, so I had to have one to place in the bedroom where my son & I are sleeping

I agree with the other reviewer, I fee saver having the battery backup to the plug in if the power were to go out. This gives me peace of mind!
