This store used to be my all time favorite, like any teenager. Now that I'm in my twenties and have developed a much more fashionable taste for clothing, it seems as though they have went completely downhill. I know there slogan is "All about the music" or something along those lines, and I still pop in there for a few band shirts for lazy days when I don't feel like getting all dressed up, but I found that you can actually purchase cheaper modern goth clothes from Forever21 and get more items for the price you would pay at HT for one item. I was never a fan of the large Tripp pants with all the chains, by any means, but when they used to sell nothing but all goth/alternative clothing, it had substance.
I used to love this store a lot more than I do now. I can still go in and find clothes that I love, but it is harder to do. Everything is covered in logos for bands I either don't like or don't even know (and that's fine, I just don't understand why EVERYTHING has to be covered in logos). I do really love that they have fandom stuff, particularly Supernatural. I purchased a SPN t-shirt a few years ago, and it was amazing and fit perfectly until I washed it three times. The fabric shrank so much that the shirt went from a medium to an extra small (and this was with me being my usual careful self) so probably buy a size or two up, just to be safe. Every now and then I'll browse the website or meander into the store, but I rarely buy anything anymore.
I used to love going to their store in the next town over since we never had one here. But their prices were always so high, not to mention that their shirts and jeans are always so small! It gives off the feel that the store is just for the skinnier folks that shop there... I rarely shop online because even with the sales that they always have going on, things are still so expensive, not to mention the SHIPPING MURDERS YOUR WALLET. One playing deck of cards, $6 DOLLARS. WTF? The few shirts I have bought from Hot Topic, I have ended up regifting/selling them because guess what? The shirts are so thin! I swear that a plastic butterknife could slice through the fabric with ease and it makes me uncomfortable when I see a brastrap just pushing against the shirt so much. I love the fandom merchandise, but the bad products/prices/shipping/ bad on sale merchandise just throws me off from them sadly...
As a misfit high school student Hot Topic was my absolute favorite place to shop. My parents only allowed me to get a few things here and there as a lot of their pieces were quite pricey, but I did have a good collection of shirts, tripp pants, and hoodies from there. As fashions changed Hot Topic started carrying less of it's stuff that I liked, and started stocking more mainstream fashion, and I pretty much stopped shopping there, but even though I wasn't buying anything I found myself checking out shop every time I hit the mall. Over the past year I have seen Hot Topic seem to go back to it's roots. They are bringing back the Tripp brand, the darker/weirder side of fashion, and they are bringing a whole bunch of retro fashion in, which definitely appeals to me as I am a pinup girl and adore 40s-60s fashions. I am super happy that they seem to be going back to the place I loved as a teen.
I love this store. I buy my nose piercings here, some clothes, accessories. What I like the most is that they always have a sale or some discount so you can buy more of the products. Is a different but cool store
I liked this store a lot better when they had a bigger variety of items. They rarely have anything in my size, it seems everything I want is only available in small or extra small. As far as perfumes go they will bring out something I totally fall in love with and then discontinue it and never have it in stock again. I'm just bored with their website in general. I adore corset tops and it's usually what I shop for. I could always find ones I would just fall in love with, now it's like it literally kills them to get anything new and not overpriced. When they finally do put a new corset on their site it looks costumish and I really prefer them to look like tops and have straps at least. I also don't want to pay $50 for it. It really makes me mad, I want something interesting and unique that won't break my bank. I'm not made of money but I still want be able to wear the things I like.
I love hot topic. Anytime I go to the mall I HAVE to stop in. They have such a variety of classic, popular things. The employees are always friendly and helpful. I’m always happy with the products I buy
I haven't been in a Hot Topic in awhile, but I remember when they first opened.. Man, was that store great. Parents HATED IT, and that's some of the fun of being a teenager, right? They had more of a "goth" lean back then, now they're just super trendy, overly expensive, employ some seriously rude, obnoxious, rotten, elitist people. But, I guess that's the way it goes when places and things get super popular, they change with the times. I'd rather see them go back to the way they were, but if you're super trendy and have plenty of money to spend.. This is the place to do it. "All about the music" ?? Meeeh, maybe they used to be, but it seems more they're on the comic & pop culture bandwagon.
Hot Topic is one of my all-time favorite stores and has been for well over a decade now. They have some of the best dresses, accessories, swimsuits, and so much more. Hot Topic sells things that most stores back away from, which is one of the reasons why I love them so much. However, they can be quite expensive when it comes to dresses, jackets, and such. As a young college student, it's so depressing to find a store FULL of things that you would kill to have, but can't because of how expensive some of the items are. Despite its tendency to be expensive, I definitely recommend this store!!!!
I genuinely love(d) this store. I own several band tees, fandom tees, Hot Topic Pop! vinyl exclusives, buttons, posters ... you get the picture. However, I'm not absolutely THRILLED with this store. They are extremely pricey for the quality (or should I say lack of quality?) of the items you get. The tees rip easily, especially the girl tees (right in the armpits!). If I spend $25 on a T-shirt, I want the image to last more than four washes and the fabric to, you know, stay intact? As for the atmosphere, they can cool it on the screamo music and faux-goth items. Just because everything is black and has chains and is distressed in the knees doesn't make it goth ... and it doesn't justify paying $40.
Q & A
Does anyone else wished that hot topic was easier to walk through? It's always so small and crowded.
Ain't most of their clothes black?
What's your go to section at hot topic?
