As stated previously, I myself have not owned a Napoleon personally, but I have sold hundreds of them. In wood, gas and pellet. Although the gas and pellet are easier to maintain , the wood burning is just as efficient, easy to use and who doesn't like the sound and ambience of an old fashion wood burning fireplace . Installation is preferred to be done professionally, unless you know the chimney installation process . A flue must be installed to connect into the stove if you don't already have one . The design is amazing , easy to use doors that open smooth, as well as the damper . The wood stoves do require a yearly chimney sweep , two if you live in the colder states and use it more frequently. This is for your safety of the flue getting backed up (clogged) and can potentially be hazardous. The inside of the unit should also be cleaned as well at least every other month . As far as the heat output , I'd say it could heat a 2600 square foot home if the remainder of the home is properly insulated. The durability on these units are nearly indestructible and if well maintained will last you for years to come . Definitely worth investing money into.
