If you like oaky reds, Chardonnay is a good place to start with whites. Hess is definitely on the oaky side, Kendall Jackson is another I would recommend to start out with since it's readily available at most bars and restaurants. Once you get through some Chards try some Sauvignon Blancs to experience a "crisper" white without the sweetness of a Pinot or Riesling.
