I read these books as they came out as a kid. I reread them as an adult, and they still hold up. Book Six explores darker themes than previous books as Harry and crew come of age during a war. Harry enters his sixth year with the world shaken by the resurgence of Voldemort. He continues to figure out his role in fighting against the dark lord while also handling the ups and downs of being a teenager. The pace is past and the world is intriguing. If you are coming to this series for the first time, especially if you are introducing this series to a young person, I recommend reading up on JK Rowling’s transphobia and issues with the series in terms of stereotypes, lack of diversity, and the handling of minority groups with the wizarding world and consider how these beliefs are conveyed in the book.
