As someone who is lactose intolerant and health-conscious, ice cream isn't the friendliest food for me. When Halo Top first came onto the market, I remember trying it and thinking "this isn't ice cream - it's more like icy milk!" When I heard they reformulated their product, I decided to give it another try. At only 320 calories for a full pint, fewer calories and much less fat per serving compared to leading ice creams, the nutrition facts seem too good to be true: but how does it taste? Well, I can say that the new formulation did wonders for the brand: the ice cream is almost creamy enough to fool me into thinking it's real ice cream, with a soft, smooth texture (despite being made with skim milk), and I don't get an aftertaste of artificial sweetener, perhaps because they used erythritol, which is known for a sort of "cooling sensation", but you're already eating an icy product anyways, so that doesn't really matter. As for the "green tea flavor", I think it's a smart choice, since green tea is a strong flavor that comes through, masking any of the potential aftertaste of low-fat ice cream with artificial sweetener, but I think they could have been much more generous with the "mochi" topping, and when you freeze something that's typically soft like mochi, it loses the pillowy texture that makes it so fun! I can generally find Halo Top for $5-7 at local grocery store chains (think Safeway, Kroger, etc.), and sometimes cheaper on sale, but it's still fairly expensive per pint, and this flavor is hard to find. What's also interesting is that there's 12g of fiber in each pint, and "prebiotic fiber" is one of the main ingredients in the product - if you have a sensitive stomach, you should be aware of the added fiber and potentially bloat-causing artificial sweetener, but other than that, this is a great, lower-calorie option that I'm willing to occasionally splurge upon!
