The Back to the Roots kit to grow mushrooms at home was fun, but don’t expect a picture perfect result, as each kit is different and can be disappointing, especially when compared to the cost of each kit. Because there are so many variables such as the room temperature, humidity, and sunlight, a smaller kit would have been preferable if it could have been half the price. This could be a better good way to introduce growing mushrooms at home and to vary the odds of a fruitful kit. My yield was not great. It was the first time I tasted oyster mushrooms, and I love them.

This was a really cool STEM activity my wife did with our kids when she started homeschooling them. Our two boys who are 9 and 6 liked taking turns doing "Mario Watch" (my wife said if they mushrooms grow in Super Mario might eat all the mushrooms...) It was easy set-up, not a lot of clean up, we harvested fairly quickly too! The only part she kinda was bummed about was the plastic that was in the package, but we understand it was necessary due to the stuff it contained. All in all it was awesome to see the boys excited about growing something and eating it. Since then we've ordered microgreens (4 times now), pink mushrooms, their 30 pack of herbs and vegetables, and 5 pack of flowers and even more!

We've never been disappointed by a Back to the Roots product. These organic mushrooms were exceptionally good. Easy to follow simple instructions. Makes a great gift for kids or beginner gardener. Requires no special equipment or large space. No mess. Very positive growing results. The mushrooms were delicious too .
