This is one of those classic movies that no matter how old it gets you never feel like you are watching an old movie. It's been one of my favorites ever since I was a kid. It is so well written, you tend to fall in love with the characters. The effects, and especially the animatronics were ahead of its time. It must have had a crazy production budget because everything looks so perfect and put together, from the sets, down to the clothing. And the storyline is timeless. It has a bit of suspense, adventure, sci-fi, and a few sad moments. It's definitely a movie you can watch over and over again and it's always fun and exciting.
