I have used this base coat with Essie nail polishes and other brands. I can't say that this has helped keep the polish stick to my nail and prevent staining with bright colors.

The essie here to stay base coat is hands down the best base coat I have ever used. I paint my nails at home and this keeps my polish chip free for over a week. It drys quickly and doesn’t have a strong scent. When combined with essie gel setter top coat, it looks just like gel nails!
