This game, Halo Wars is a different take on a halo game by Ensemble Studios. It took a hit video game series and made it an RTS. This game has been able to stand on its feet for a long time to me. I still put it in and join up with three friends and have a few long matches. It has lasting appeal and is a lot of fun. It takes place 21 years before halo: combat evolved. You're at war with an alien race called, The Covenant. The main character you see is sergeant John Forge. He is the story character, however the game is an RTS so you control units and an army at the push of a button... and some other buttons. There is also the professor Ellen Anders. She is wanting to learn about the ruins of the Forerunners. This game is visually nice while still has the halo appeal in RTS form. In Halo wars the game design around the main building is to construct additional structures to the main base. You don't go off with a builder to expand and make however many you want. If you want more you will have to go and take over some empty slots or destroy an AI fort to make it your own. That design brings a strategy to it in a way. You have more limits and you fight over more bases with an enemy. You need to get a good amount of supply pads to ensure you have the credits to buy more buildings and units. You will need reactors to allow you to make certain units and structures, also upgrades. You have two factions, the UNSC and the Covenant. The campaign only lets you play as the UNSC, but playing as the Covenant in multiplayer is loads of fun for me. I would like to have had three factions but the game is fun none the less. The control for this RTS is so easy and simple any newcomer to this game genre can play it.
