I bought this from someone for $75 and I’m glad I did not pay full price after using it. It’s great for getting rid of peach fuzz and definitely leaves you smooth, but I didn’t see and skin cells.
I received the previous model of the Dermaflash dermaplane device as a PR product. It isn’t listed but appears to be extremely similar to the 2.0 and Luxe+ overall so I’m going to assume my review is valid for this updated version of the device. Overall, I think this product is an extremely overpriced and misleadingly marketed facial shaver. If you’re interested in dermaplaning and the skincare benefits you should go to a licensed esthetician.
Upon first use (having never shaved or dermaplaned my face before) I was thrilled with the results. My skin was smooth, glowing, and products applied better over it. But that’s purely due to the fact that skincare and makeup apply better over a shaved face. That’s all I think there really is to this product. It doesn’t have fine enough blades to genuinely dermaplane, it’s just a fancy facial shaver. I find their claims of this device being anti-aging to be misleading. Yes it is physically exfoliating and does indisputably remove peach fuzz (the brand’s other claims) but how this can be regarded as anti-aging is beyond me. It seems like the trials they cite with their anti-aging claims only lasted 4 weeks. I don’t know if they’re suggesting that the vibration or “proprietary sonic technology” has lifting benefits? Multiple people have left reviews on their website stating that this is just a shaver and the company has responded suggesting the customers are not using the product right. I find this ridiculous.
Considering this, the pricing of this product is totally unreasonable. I see the newest version is $199. It’s important to note that the $199 device comes with 4 blades…that are *single use*. Meaning, to use your Dermaflash more than 4 times you need to also purchase replacement blades that start at $29 for a 4 week supply. You’ll pay $199 for the device and $29 per month indefinitely to keep using it. That’s almost $350 per year just for replacement blades! When I got mine, I was extremely disappointed as soon as I realized I wasn’t supposed to get multiple uses out of one blade. I did still try, but quickly found that the blades easily became warped and dull even with cleaning and careful storage.
I’m not sure if the blades have been completely redesigned in the newest model, but did not find mine to be gentle. I used a light hand, didn’t pull over or press into my skin, and still ended up with nicks and red spots after use nearly every time. My charger also stopped working relatively quickly, so the sonic/vibrating feature was unusable.
I can’t recommend this product, all things considered. For the price I think anyone would be better off getting professional treatments from an esthetician. I also personally feel that shaving your face with standard facial razors achieves the same result.
