For a very long time, I used Lancôme (Teint Idole Ultra Wear) but I noticed how drying it was. I decided to head into Sephora and try new foundations and one of the staff members gave me a sample of Cover FX Power Play Foundation. I fell in love with it once I tried it on and decided to purchase it! It is amazing and there is buildable coverage. It doesn't leave my face too dry it looks very natural on my skin. This foundation is now my favorite and I would definitely recommend it!

I am so happy to have found Cover FX’s Powerplay foundation because I have the hardest time finding olive shade foundations. This has a very CC like quality when you apply it on the skin and it easily blends with a beauty blender or with fingers. Coverage is medium that could be built to full coverage, feels very skin like and lightweight. I have some PIH spots, hyperpigmentation around the sides of my nose and some mild dark circles, which this foundation covers well. The finish is just beautiful and aptly describing it as “modern matte” is true! It is dewy but not really, matte but not dry looking, just good looking skin! I can also attest to its longevity being sweat-proof and transfer-proof because I wore it outdoors for 8 hours in the heat and humidity (set with Cover FX perfect setting powder and blurring primer) and it controlled my oily skin well without oxidation or transfer on my collar.  I normally have to blot in 4 hours, even with full coverage foundations like doublewear but this did not break up nor crease; skin looked slightly dewier without blotting needed.  I also appreciate their inclusive shade range and my shade G40+ is an olive-golden tone that is around NC 25, perfect for light medium skin.  I used the Cover FX website shade finder to get my shade since Sephora does not have samples of the olive foundations.  Some shade references for me would be Estée Lauder double wear in Rattan, Koh Gen Doh aqua in 213 (winter), Armani luminous silk (6, summer tan), and It cosmetics CC cream in light. I also use Tarte shape tape in light neutral and Nars concealer in custard.

I used the entire bottle before I could give it a fair review. At first I loved how matte it was for my oily skin. The match was also perfect. It does dry quickly so you have to work in small portions and since it does dry quickly I felt like I had to use more to even parts of my face out. I have textured skin mostly due to acne scaring . It did settle into the indents and small lines in my face after an hour or so. About 4 hours into wear it starts breaking apart around my nose because I’m oily but it just made it look like a mud pit after a rain storm it was bad. If you try to pick up with absorbing sheets it will lift up your foundation completely and if you try to touch up with powder it will leave a cakey mess. I’ve tried different primers and setting powder combos as well as my holy grail oil control spray from UD and nothing came close to fixing this issue once my face produced the smallest amount of oil on top of this foundation. I really wanted to love it but my face did not. It is lightweight and doesn’t feel like you have a pound of makeup on and the color match was identical to my skin tone which I loved. If I ever figure out how to get my oil under control I would try this again.

I tried this foundation on its own and something was off. I don't think it was as luminous as I would have liked. That said, I was using the L'Oreal Pro Glow foundation and it was too dewy and didn't provide enough coverage. I mixed the two together and I now have my holy grail combo! I don't know that I'll repurchase this product once I run out, but I do appreciate that it offers a bit more coverage and works well as a mixer.

It's a close runner up to my holy grail long-wear liquid foundation, EL DW, but it just doesn't make the cut to number 1, and here's why: While the color match is great and oxidation is minimal (G40 is a good match to my DW in 1W2/2W2), the amount of product necessary to achieve truly full coverage is a bit "thick" for my preference, so I feel like my dryer patches are emphasized a bit and tend to appear more cakey than usual, even with properly hydrated and primed skin. These dryer areas are usually around the corners of my nose and right underneath my eyes. Because of the additional product necessary, it just feels overall thicker on my face and doesn't really dry down to a your-skin, transfer-proof finish like EL DW does.

Speaking of finish, the matte but not-dead-flat natural look that it does turn into is beautiful and it dries down quickly, so you don't need a setting powder, similar to DW, but I can tell after a 12 hour day, that my oils are not controlled nearly as well with this foundation as they are with DW. My forehead and nose have visible shine and the oil would require a blot. I also find that this foundation completely vanishes around the tip of my nose (where I have a bad habit of touching) by the end of the day... in a manner that is much more noticeable than with DW.

My powders, however, stick on like GLUE with this foundation - my contour, bronzer, blush, and even HIGHLIGHT are mostly still intact, which is truly remarkable and something I typically do not see, so in that regard this foundation wins.

In addition, I did notice that this foundation transferred quite a bit more than DW does, even from early on in the day, which is a huge bummer so be careful when wiping or hugging!

Overall, if you're okay with having to blot, and truly understand how to moisturize and prime your dry patches well, you may really enjoy this foundation. It's a great longwear option, but it didn't blow me out of the water in terms of perfecting my complexion in any way, even when paired with my other HG primer.

FYI - I found that adding the CoverFX powder just added to the dryness and cakiness. You definitely don't need it with this product!

I want to first start off this review by addressing the brand’s claims (straight from their website.) It goes as follows: It’s a matte, medium to full coverage foundation that is sweatproof, waterproof, transfer-proof and provides all day wear. It is vegan, cruelty-free and free of talc, oil, fragrance, parabens and gluten. Now, i want to officially start by addressing those said claims. I was hesitant at first to use this because this brand sadly doesn’t get talked about as much (which I am unsure of why) but for 35mL of product you spend $44.00 USD. It looks FLAWLESS on (if you can’t tell), and it was not a true matte but not a natural matte. I’d describe it as a Demi-matte. Because it wasn’t super matte as the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation but it wasn’t as radiant or dewy as the NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation. I would say it started off as a solid light medium coverage, given the method you use to apply it, but it can easily build up to a full coverage product. I actually prefer the solid medium coverage because if you go too full, it can tend to cake up. I don’t normally sweat as I am indoors 98% of the time, but being outside for 5 minutes in the Florida heat gets my sweat ducts cooking. I sweat a lot and rather fast. This lived up to it, I dabbed it on a napkin (as I’m out of my blotting sheets so ew) and none transferred to the napkin. I found that this works best with the TATCHA The Silk Canvas out of all of my primers. It feels like I am wearing nothing. It literally looks like my photo ALL DAY... it never broke up on my face where I normally would. I got compliments all day, from strangers and coworkers (some who haven’t even conversed with me before)! Absolutely love this and I hope they never stop making it because this has thrown me off the course of buying another foundation.

This is my summer shade and formula. It is very matte, and I have dry skin, so summer is the only time I use this, because it really does last through any festival ever. It covers my nose completely which is most important to me. So many foundations don’t cover my nose all the way. It looks beautiful for how full coverage it is. Lasts all day. It really is the best long lasting matte foundation.

I am definitely not a full coverage matte foundation kind of girl so I was not expecting to like this Foundation at all. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the product! It doesn’t look as cakey as most full coverage foundations do and it lasts a long time. I will still most likely not wear it often (probably only for special occasions) because it’s still a pretty heavy foundation for me and not what I’m used to on my skin. When I did wear it, I also made sure to have a pretty glowy and hydrating base so that my face wouldn’t look too dry. I’m also going to try to mix It with a hydrating foundation so that I can still get the longevity of Power Play but the glow of a different foundation. Overall if you like matte foundations I would say you would love this and if you don’t like matte foundations I’m not sure this is worth going out and buying it unless you need a matte foundation in your collection. I received this product complimentary for sampling purposes but all opinions are my own.

As you can see I tried A LOT of the shades trying to find my match. I'm olive/tan but have a-lot of peachy/red on my upper chest so If I just match my face my it looks like my head belongs to another person, LOL.  The Plus colors are for Olive tones and they are great if you are a true olive. The G are true golden tones and the N are the Neutral but I think are a little on the pink side to be a Neutral. Also, the 50's are a lot darker than the 40's. They need something in-between . I ended up keeping the N50 but will only be able to wear it when I'm tan. The N40 was just sooooo pale! I could mix the 2 but I hate doing that. It is definitely more medium than full coverage. It's buildable but not easily and it requires a ton of product to cover my severe rosacea. The reason I bumped it up to 4 stars over 3 is its durability. It holds up really well to water, heat and humidity and has a matte finish which I prefer.

Wow I can never say enough great things about this product! Firstly, their is a shade for everyone. Secondly, the formula is amazing!! This makeup line was originally designed for burn victims and was created to be gentle enough to wear on open wounds, so if this makeup isn’t gentle enough to wear I’m not sure what is! It’s coverage is buildable and doesn’t budge all night! I will never not buy this foundation it is the best one I have ever worn!!!
