One Clif energy shot is 100 calories, 24g of carbs, 90mg of Sodium, 55mg of Potassium, and 12g of sugar. Do NOT take this product in conjunction with an energy drink as you'll be overloading your system with too many simple sugars at once and you can end up with G.I. distress. This product should be followed up with a few sips of water.
For how long (time) and distance are you bicycling? If your total activity time is less than 45 minutes, no energy supplement is needed. A good rule of thumb is (1) energy gel every 45-60 minutes of continuous activity. This may still cause you stomach distress, if that's the case I'd recommend 1/4 of a gel every 20 minutes provided you are continuously bicycling for a period of at least 45 minutes.
There are multiple products on the market, gels, blocks, chews, etc. and they come down to personal prefrence as far as taste, consistency, and how they interact with your body. I prefer Honey Stinger Chews as opposed to Clif gels or blocks.
