So normally I do a review because I am in awe of a great product but this is going to be on the other side of that scale. We have the slowest service in the middle of town with our CenturyLink. We have the highest possible plan and we can not be on the xbox and phone at the same time. Currently trying to find a different service provider in our area.
CenturyLink is one of my least favorite ISPs. I Struggled with them for about 5 years before it just wasn't worth the money I was paying to deal with their blatant lying, overcharging, signing me up for services I didn't ask for, and the multitudes of other issues I had with them. Their customer service is a joke. If you aren't ordering new stuff it's nearly impossible to get a person on the phone. Once you have a person you'll have to get through them transferring you over and over, having to repeat all your info and the problem each time. Sometimes they just straight up hang up on you for no apparent reason and you have to go through the whole thing again. The only positive thing I can say is I almost never had an outage, maybe only one time. I had to contact the FCC to settle a dispute with them on more than one occasion. This is not a good company. If you have ANY alternative I recommend taking it.
We first were with Qwest before they were bought out by CenturyLink. Living in a rural area and where we live dictated what Internet/phone providers we get. The main issue is to be vigilant on paying on time and about the bill itself, (because they will nickel and dime, even if the mistake was on their end), and to always rent out modems for Internet use. We used to buy our own modems, and they always went kaput. Now, we pay a little more to rent our modems from CenturyLink, but when they go bad, we just call and tell them that the modem died, so we then send the old modem back to them and they send us a new one. Plus, with renting modems, you know the modem you have is an approved one, so if something goes bad, it's on them to fix it.
I have CenturyLink for my internet provider and I'm really happy with them and what I pay! Definitely keep up with your contract because when it expires your bill will go up, other than that CenturyLink is extremely affordable! I can call a number when it is not working and having issues and all I have to do is get to the repair menu and put in my account number and it tells me if my router is having issues or if they are doing maintenance, which they do late at night once in a while.
Honestly has been one of the worst experiences with a company I have ever had. Only keeping the subscription because it was cheap and short. When we signed up for the service we were told we would get 40mbps for $35 a month... The day before they were to come and set up our service we get a call saying we can only have 3mbps for $45 a month and then hung up. We were furious, bot at the sudden change in our plan, but at how the centurylink employee handled the situation. We called back and were able to get it 'fixed' getting 10mbps for $30 a month and then the next day we got to use our new internet after getting a call that is was set up and turned out that they set it up to the wrong apartment... So tha took ANOTHER day to get that set up and they finally got it right.... Then we get the bill and it was $380!!!!!! They charged us for an early termination fee when they disconnected the internet from the WRONG aparment that they had set it to. From there on we had problems with our bill every month for 5 months until we FINALLY got a competent employee who was able to put through all of our promotions and coupons so that they wouldn't come off of our account every month. We did get everything settled and figured out, but that was not on their part. We had to call back and be on the phone with them for hours every month until they finally fixed everything. Not an experience I want to go through or want anyone else to go through... If you are in the Florida/Orlando area Centurylink is NOT WORTH IT.
I have it and they are great on working with ur payments I love it couse they help u thru CHATTING that's what I love it is very affordable not expensive is up to u how much u wanna pay I don't have nothing bad to say they are great I would recommend to other I'll get credit too i love century Link try it
There are better internet services. I remember the internet was out for days twice in one year for several days. One when I was in school. The other when I was at home. Need a better speed to do things I gotta do. Please upgrade so that we don't have to switch services.
I have never given out a one-star review until now. I cannot tell you enough how bad this company. I am NEVER billed correctly. The last five times I've called them they have repeatedly asked me to update my info because they don't actually do it. And everyone I know who has them feels the same way.
I have been a Century Link customer for the last 4 years and really don't like them as far as the products/services they provide. I don't have any other choice as cable (Comcast) is more expensive yet. The DSL I have is supposed to be 40MB and it only comes through at 28. They say it's the wiring in my home but I've run all new CAT5 cable and the connection still is slow as dial up. Their phone service is good but I don't know why I have it anymore as I don't use the land line and when I do it's to FAX something a couple of times a year. My security system doesn't even use my landline any more. I also have TV service thru them via DirecTV but I am not happy with that either. I have been with DirecTV for 10 years and they keep raising my rates and I have to fight every 2 years or and threaten to leave just to get my rate to that of new customer. The latest time they told me there was no incentive for me to stay and that they will no longer give me a discount so I will be cancelling their service as soon as my contract is up in 4 months. I hate that you cannot watch TV the times you most want to, when it's a downpour or a blizzard as you have no satellite signal. My wife loves DirecTV but I hate them. I am willing at this point to pay more for cable just to get fast internet and uninterrupted TV again.
The only reason I still do business with this company is that they are the only game in town. I paid them for computer insurance, had some problems, and they remote accessed my computer and completely wiped the memory clean, then said that they had no culpability, and that I must have done it myself (yeah, so I could wipe my I-tunes list and start over). I contacted the Washington State Attorney General, they contacted Centurylink and Centurylink refused to do anything at all, and laid the blame on me. _______s! (apply appropriate word). I don't know why we have an AG if they can't get companies like this in line, and hold them responsible for their mistakes. I am still seething two years later. My Aunt worked in an office building in Boise Id that also housed a Centurylink office, and said that Centurylink refused to allow customers to enter their office because they were afraid of customer reprisals. Apparently they had received threats. At least we know they take some things seriously! Their management leaves a lot to be desired. The only reason they got one star from me is that you can't leave this page with no stars. They should be ashamed of themselves! Big guy picking on the little guy....What a bunch of jerks.
