First released on PSone and later as a port on N64, with a sequel and a prequel, with a canceled sequel for 3DS, this game has a cult following, being that it departs from the typical MegaMan series of side-scrolling Blue Bomber platforming. This game is more of an exploration action platformer full with upgrades, characters, voice acting, humorous light-hearted dialogue and deeper story. The graphics are what you'd expect from a PSone game, with the design being bright and cheery until you go underground on what are known as Digs, where you plunder dungeons for treasure, upgrades, and seek to fell foes known as Reaver Bots. There's an interesting lore to discover in the game, built upon more in the sequel. The game play is pretty solid, consisting of much strafing, and shooting with your buster gun as well as a secondary weapon with different functionality such as wall bombs, cannon fire, and even a nifty sword! The enemies of the game with personality you cannot help but get somewhat attached to, and the main characters are your typical heroes that are in search of treasure, referred to as the "Mother Lode." Roll is the technician that tries to repair everything, will upgrade you and provide mission support. Grandpa Barrel, who's Roll's grandfather and offers some dialogue to provide story and progression, Data, a monkey that's basically the save point, and, of course, MegaMan! This game is worth the try not only as a MegaMan title, but as a fun game filled with dungeons, action, and adventure. It's probably hard to get a copy and a psone, but if you can and have an interest in Spin-off MegaMan games, then this is the game for you!
