The superb Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Autofocus Lens yields sharp, crisp images with little flare - even at the maximum aperture! And of course its f/1.4 speed makes it perfect for available-light shooting, including low-light conditions. Compact and affordable, it combines the extra-small Micro USM with full-time manual focusing when the lens is in the AF mode. Two high-refraction lens elements and gaussian optics eliminate astigmatism and suppress astigmatic difference. The lens large aperture brings the subject closer, creates excellent background blur, gives a longer flash range, and affords a faster shutter speed to freeze the action. This great lens, with its natural angle of view and perspective, captures the subject plainly, with no special effects. However, you can use this lens in creative ways by varying the subject distance, aperture, and angle. The Canon 50 mm 1.4 lens is really special. Once you understand changing your aperture to achieve those dreamy blurred backgrounds, this lens is great. Learn with the 1.8, which is only about $100. Anyone who tells you just to get the 1.2 is ridiculous. Yes, that's a great lens - if you have $1200 to spend! For the money, the 1.4 50mm is impossible to beat. It's so reasonably priced, with dreamy effects (so long as you understand your camera manually), and has more vivid color than the 1.8. It's a fantastic buy. I regretted not getting it sooner.
The 50mm 1.4 is a great lens! I love the photos I produce with it, especially for weddings! My close up portraits have this almost dream-like appearance to them from the wide 1.4 aperture setting. I would recommend if you are looking for a great portrait lens.
Best starter prime lens, hands down!!! Now that you've invested in a camera, the 50 1.4 should be your next purchase. I don't think you really need all of the accessories that are included in this kit, but a good tripod, lens, and lens hood are a great start!
Beautiful lens. Definitely recommend it over the 1.8 for portraits but if you want even more quality go for the 1.2
This is the best thing ever. I used to have them but I miss them, sadly. So I want a new ones because they are so incredible and amazing.
