I have severe seborrheic dermatitis and have to wash my hair near-daily with a variety of medicated shampoos as a result. It also means I can’t get anything containing oils near my scalp, which complicates managing my unruly hair. A few months ago, I got an awful perm and she absolutely fried my hair. I was so disappointed. Ever since, I’ve had to totally change my hair routine. I naturally have straight but slightly wavy, very fine, thinning, oily hair. I had to be very careful not to use too much conditioner and avoided silicones like the plague because they made my hair flat and greasy. At the time, I did use products with light oils in them, as I hadn’t yet realized how much they worsened my scalp and couldn’t use silicones. Now that my hair is frizzy, fragile, and tangles easily, I need more moisture than ever. But as I said, oils are a no-go. So I need conditioners with lots of silicone. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find good moisturizing and repairing conditioners that are oil-free. Before the bhs. Damage Repair conditioner, I used unholy amounts of Pantene and a leave-in spray — a lot of it. With enough time and effort, most days, I could make my hair look decent. But it was a massive pain and I still had a lot of bad hair days. I saw this conditioner at Walmart and I had never heard of this brand before. I went there planning to buy Nexxus Keraphix but decided to give this a try, since it’s anti-dandruff and half the price. And I am so glad I did. I use far less conditioner than before and my hair is incredibly soft, less tangled, far less frizzy, and my curls look better than ever. The selfie I uploaded is the day after washing with zero products in my hair — and I didn’t even comb it! All I did was run my fingers through a few spots and I am absolutely stunned. This is the second time I’ve washed with it. My scalp does not seem to be any worse (though not any better) and that is incredibly important to me. I would rather have messy hair than be scratching my scalp until it bleeds every day. And I am so happy that with this I don’t have to choose one or the other. I genuinely cannot recommend this conditioner enough. I have not tried the shampoo version but may in the future. Oh, and on top of it all, it doesn’t stink like many damage repair products. It has a very light scent that I’m not sure how to describe, but if you’ve ever used Head & Shoulders Supreme Clarify & Volumize, it smells very similar. It smells like a lot of products that say they have bamboo or algae in them. Clean and fresh, not quite floral but “natural” smelling. And again, it’s very light and not at all overwhelming. As of June 2023, this brand is a Walmart exclusive and costs $7.98 for a 13.5 fl oz bottle. If you can’t find it in-store, it is available for shipping on Walmart.com and the app. Given they offer free returns, you have nothing to lose and potentially so much to gain. If you have dry, frizzy, unruly damaged hair — along with scalp concerns — you must give this a try! It could actually change your life.
