  • "I'm the type of girl that wings out her liner nearly everyday. This product makes it super easy and quick for me to do. The flexible tip takes some getting used to, but once you do, it's amazing. The pen-like design makes it easy to control. The formula itself doesn't budge throughout the day. The only down side to this is the liner takes awhile to get to the tip, so sometimes I go overboard with the twists and too much product comes out. Oops. Overall, it's definitely worth the buy." in 607 reviews
  • "Love this liner. As someone who is absolutely horrible at using liners. this is super easy to use, makes even, perfect wings/cat eyes a cinch, and glides on with pretty much no effort, as well as being super black. It is long lasting, and looks good on its own or with additional black liquid liner on top. I usually only use other liners to touch it up." in 403 reviews
  • "The They're Real! Gel Eyeliner is personally my holy grail product. I cannot go a day without this product. It made my eyeliner routine so easy and quick in the morning. Love it!" in 340 reviews

Review for: Blue more...
I got this from a friend who works with Benefit, and she started with “Not many people can use this, but you’re amazing at your eyeliner so I’m sure you’ll get it”... I should’ve taken that as a warning instead of laughing lol

First of all, the color is very pretty! I Was excited to see how I could incorporate this dark blue into some looks! Now, there’s a spinning click-er at the bottom of the liner that you rotate to push product up. Once you screw off the cap, there’s an angled rubber piece that the product comes out of (it bends the more you push down too, which can make for an inconsistent product placement). You can see the product kind of comes out straight rather than adhering to the angled shape... with that in mind... when you try to make a line (as if you were trying to line your eyes), the product comes out and runs so inconsistently it’s annoying. It’s like you push down (light or hard; I’ve tried both ways and it’s still inconsistent), and it’s clumped in the beginning with product and as you slide, it’s just streaky! No one wants that when trying to do eyeliner. It’s like you’re wasting product trying to cover what should’ve been a nice easy line to make. I’ve managed to make a pigmented eyeliner look, but it took some maneuvering when using the product and concealer to clean up what WASNT a sharp line I was going for! There’s just much much better liners out there than this.... But if you can get this product to look nice, it doesn’t budge! So that’s a plus!

I just don’t really recommend personally!

* Reference pictures. I have to click a minimum of 3 times at least to get a small dab of product out. Second picture is a couple clicks, just to show how the product comes out of the pen odd. First picture is a couple test lines to show the consistency. Even if I did a small amount of product, the lines were thin and streaky, so you’d have to go over them again to lay down more pigment. Some of the lines I used more product on but the lines still started in one clump and then slide into inconsistency.

I have a love & hate relationship with this product. I LOVE the product but I hate the applicator. They should really just scrap the pen design or make a better one. This eyeliner is truly black and it DOES NOT budge once applied. I've worn Benefit Cosmetics They're Real! Gel Eyeliner Pen to a Bikram Yoga class and I came out the class as flawless as I came in. I love that the pen tip is slanted but you have to wind the pen up a lot for the eyeliner to come out. When you leave the pen overnight and come back the next day all the extra product that should of came out the previous day is all over the pen tip. It is frustrating to work with at times but I do continue to buy it because I genuinely like it.

Ok for the price, this is not my favorite. I only bought this once, and would not again. Every time I open it, a bunch of product has bunched up to the top that I have to wipe of and waste or it will come off on my eye in a big clump. Once I’ve cleaned it off, it’s very difficult to figure out what the correct amount to push up is. Too much, and it comes off in a big clump and you can’t even finish it. To little and you get spotty eyeliner or none at all. I bought this, and honestly have been wearing no eyeliner instead of wrestle with this. On special occasions I always think: “hmm, maybe I’ll try again.” And it’s always a mistake. Run from this product. There are plenty of great products benefit offers. This is not one of them.

For the first week or two it works good.  It dries up in the tube so quickly, and falls out like pieces of clay.  As applying, you lose a good bit of the eyeliner because it just falls apart.  Once applied, it dries out in a few hours and looks crumbly.  I think it is pretty and looks good on the eyes for an hour- but it is not a great all day liner and it is difficult to remove.

I really like this eyeliner. If you're looking for a bold look, this will definitely give it to you. You have to practice a little bit to get the wing right but for the most part, it's easy to apply and reasonably priced. The only thing I didn't like about it is that it would sometimes smudge at the ends which is odd because when I try to take my makeup off, it's kind of hard to remove.

Oh no, honey... this eyeliner is a tragic mess. In theory, it's kinda brilliant; the soft tip applicator, when it works, actually does produce a really nice wing. However, the formula is such a weird consistency that it very seldom actually makes a clean line, and let's not even talk about the lack of staying power. I had high hopes for this liner, they were not met by any means.

Total freaking flop dude. I WAS SO EXCITED TO TRY THIS PRODUCT. And I don’t know if I got a jank pen but product would not come out of the dang top and then when I would crank it a lot, it would just start pushing out all the product I could not use it, I used this about 5 times I put it in my makeup organizer for if I ran out of eyeliner, but it ended up sitting for a year and a half so I threw it out. I wished for a different experience.

I was a little traumatized by my experience with the they’re real eyeliner. I was given multiple of the sample sized options and every single one of them was dry so I went out and purchased the product, and again it was dry. I tried returning it and the store said I was trying to swap it out with an old product, so to this day I haven’t been able to actually test it

This was my go-to eyeliner for a long time. The angled applicator is great especially if you want to do a wing but you’re not the greatest at it. The gel formula is different and you may not like it if you’re a liquid eyeliner person. Takes some getting used to. Can dry out if not used regularly! Tip - when you use it the first time you have to twist several times before the product comes out.

Was not impressed at all with this product. The wand and the brush on it were very difficult to work with. The product did not come out evenly so it would create a Gloppy mess on some points of my upper lid. It dried out really quickly as well. I did not find this eyeliner to be user-friendly at all. And it was a bear to get off of my eyes once I applied it. You have to use an oil-based makeup remover in order to get it off. It is not something I would repurchase.

Is this kind of like liquid liner? I like the pencils, but prefer the liquid liner, this looks like it's the best of both worlds?
