This book is inspired by the book "Before We Were Yours" by Lisa Wingate. Which is a fictional book inspired by the real life adoptions through the Memphis Tennessee Children's Home Society and it's founder Georgia Tann. After the release of the book Lisa was overwhelmed by the amount of adoptees that contacted her with their real life stories. This is where "Before and After...." comes into the picture. Lisa, with the help of her friend Judy Christie, and push from Connie, an adoptee from TCHS, decided to have a reunion weekend where other adoptees can get together to share their story and hopefully contact with others that have unanswered questions. The real life stories are heartbreaking. For years the adoptees were unable to get any information on their adoptions bc all of the files were sealed.
