Has anybody had a problem with fleas on their pets this year? I’ve been using the Bayer Animal K9 Advantix® II but it doesn’t seem to be working this year

I also bought this and after 1 month it stopped working. We cleaned every corner of the home and still found fleas on him. I ordered ceresto flea collar and now I don’t see any fleas on my dog anymore. Now I have like 4 months supply of advantix just laying in my cabinet

For any flea prevention to be effective you need to 1. Treat the inside and outside of your home. Vacuum daily. If you have a heavy infestation you will need to treat their bedding, your carpets and your upholstery as well. 2. Do not bathe with a sulfate shampoo after application. While it is water resistant it is not waterproof and not soap proof. Doing so will wash the product off your pet and you'll need to reapply. Secondly, if you must bathe look for a sulfate free shampoo and don't bathe directly before or after you apply the prevention. 3. All pets in the home must be treated. If you're not treating them all it won't be effective as new fleas are coming in and those new fleas lay eggs which keep hatching and thus the cycle starts all over again. 4. Be consistent. Apply every 3 to 4 weeks for optimal control. 5. Use products that work. Frontline and Advantage have both shown immunity is built up over time, as may not be as effective as it used to be. 6. Using Dawn dish soap will not prevent fleas, it will merely kill the ones the dog has currently. 7. Use Capstar along with your flea prevention if the animal has fleas currently. You will need to use them a couple of days apart, but it is an effective way to kill fleas currently on the animal if the infestation is heavy. This is what we use at the veterinary clinics to get fleas off immediately with animals who are weakened by blood loss. 8. Do not use over the counter flea control prevention and speak to your vet about the pros and cons of veterinary drugs. Some prevention cannot be used by dogs who suffer from seizures, who are undergoing heartworm treatment etc. Know the risks involved and the positive outcome using the medication would provide. Remember that if a dog has fleas you will need to also deworm for tapeworms.

Try using Frontline Plus Pet Insect Treatment for Dogs - Small Dogs - 3 doses with Frontline Spray. Or for a diy I used is coffee and Dawn Ultra Dishwashing Liquid, Original Scent ! Make sure it’s the blue soap! Sounds crazy but that’s what we use at the rescue hospitals for effective and cheaper + safer diy.

There have been years when the fleas are resistant to all known treatments. It could be what is going on in ATL currently. Lexington had that problem last summer. It seems to go in cycles.
