I buy Ambrosia Devon Rice pudding in cans and in the recyclable pots. My kids absolutely adore the creamy flavour. It's really delicious and filling. Nice texture great for treats or puddings. We also take it for school packed lunches!
There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about cracking open a tin of Ambrosia Rice Pudding. It’s not trying to be trendy or flashy — it’s a humble can of comfort, and sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.
I picked up a tin recently, more out of curiosity than craving. I hadn’t had it in years, and I wondered if it would still taste like I remembered. Spoiler: it did — in the best way.
Straight from the Tin (or Bowl)
Once opened, you’re greeted with a thick, creamy pudding, speckled with soft grains of rice. It doesn’t look fancy — and that’s part of the appeal. It’s pudding as it should be: simple, homely, and warm (either emotionally or literally, if you pop it in the microwave for a minute or two).
The texture is spot on. The rice is soft but not mushy, and the creamy base has just the right consistency — not too runny, not too stodgy. It’s that “just right” kind of spoonful that feels like a hug in food form.
The Flavour
Flavor-wise, it’s mild and mellow — sweet without being overpowering, with a clean dairy taste that doesn’t rely on artificial vanilla or sugary shortcuts. It’s the kind of pudding you can happily eat on its own, but also one that lends itself well to a bit of customisation. A dash of cinnamon, some chopped bananas, or even a spoonful of jam stirred through takes it to the next level.
Why Keep a Tin in the Cupboard?
Honestly? It’s a pantry hero. Long shelf life, ready in seconds, no need for refrigeration until opened — and most importantly, it’s reliable. You know exactly what you’re getting with Ambrosia: a warm, nostalgic dessert that doesn’t try to be anything other than what it is.
Would I Buy It Again?
Yes — and probably keep a couple of tins on standby for rainy days, quiet nights, or when I need a reminder of how good the simple things can be.
Final Thoughts
Ambrosia Rice Pudding in a tin is a classic for a reason. It’s not about reinvention — it’s about tradition, comfort, and that lovely moment when you realise that sometimes, the best things come in very plain packaging.

Simple, satisfying, and always there when you need
Delicious. My comfort food. Perfect cold or hot, with or without strawberry or raspberry jam. Very filling. Sadly gone up in price quite a bit recently but still beats all the competition. Definitely a constant on the shopping list
