Ugh! Hated this place! This place screams, "We're trying too hard!" From the ridiculous color schemes to the tacky lounge, these new places that resemble the 70s aren't for me. When I'm traveling, I want something comfortable, modern, and luxurious.
I stayed here in Chicago and was not impressed. Parking was so expensive, the pool was down for maintenance and the website didn't disclose that. The overall feel of the hotel was cheap when it wasn't cheap at all. The only nice thing was the location.
The room design was bizarre and dated. You could hear everything in other rooms and there was not enough storage space. I also really disliked their lobby area. Also, the few amentities they had available for purchase were outrageously overpriced.
When I went to go visit Asheville NC I stayed at the Aloft hotels. It was super clean, convenient parking, great staff. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely go back again. The staff also helped finding great local places to go to.
Stayed at their hotel in Nashville and it was nice. The location was not extremely convenient but nothing a short cab ride wouldn't fix. The toiletries were really nice and the room clean and comfortable, thought the building was clearly old.
It really depends on what time you go and which aloft you are in. If you check in during the day there isn't a crowd, but at night there might be a lot of people in the lobby. The Alofts that I have stayed at have bars/lounges in their lobbies so guest come down there in the afternoon and evening to hangout.
They're more unique than normal hotel chains. The one I went to near Los Angeles had a bar area and cafe in the lobby. The rooms were nicely decorated and the bathroom had a glass vessel sink and nice stall shower.
