I like the concept of this game. You're pretty much launched off from Earth (you can play it as a follow up to reaching Alpha Centauri) and you can pick a couple characteristics (like civilization type (each with different characteristics) type of population you are bringing, what would you like your start up tech to be and the type of thrusters your ship has) or just do it randomly. You can also pick the type of planet you are landing on- earthlike, and other possibilities.

Then you pick the area where your ship lands and start playing. You get to pick your techs and it's a bit more tricky than civ- they all start out in the middle and you're learning from there. Barbarians are replaced by aliens, and there are still wonders to build. You can see where your opponents land. and there's no going around discovering where the opponents are. Your cities are not built immediately, first they are outposts which you have to defend over several turns, and there are also independent outposts which pop up (and in some cases you can select) and you can start trading with them by building a convoy.

This game is lackluster compared to Civ 5. Civilization 5 had everything going for it and was extremely fun to play for hours upon hours. This civilization game completely threw all of this out the window. But it is still a Civilization game so it is decent.
