I received this kit as a Christmas present from my aunt. It comes with instructions and a tube that collects your DNA sample. It's fascinating how genes can be studied to know where each segment belongs on a map, it's insanely cool to see where your family originated hundreds of years ago. 23 and me not only includes ancestry it also includes health, phenotype, and connectivity tools. $200 dollars may seem like a lot to spend to know where you originated or your family history but it sure is incredible to learn things about yourself that you never would've known.
This was a Christmas present for me this year! I wasn't expecting much from it as I thought I understood where I came from, genetically. I was so wrong! It provided so many insights into not just where my family came from, but also screened for any genetic issues and showed any sort of tendencies (eating habits, physical features, alcoholism etc) that may come with having certain genes. It was really interesting and really well put together. It is a bit pricey, but if you are interested in learning more about yourself genetically it is definitely worth the price!
I love this product!! The kit arrived super quick and the process was really easy. Just spit in a cup and mail it back! The results took only a few weeks and were really detailed and interesting. My husband and I found out so much about ourselves! You can get a discount if you buy one for another one, which is great for a couple. I totally recommend the service. They also send updates every few months on new things they can detect from your sample, such as genetic predisposition for certain things, such as being overweight or diseases. Excellent product!
After loosing a parent when I was young- and having have Crohn's disease, and knowing IBD runs in my family, I was always curious about my ancestry. I was referred by my doctor to look into getting the 23 and Me DNA and Ancestry kit. They were doing a promotion for people with IBD so I received the kit for free! I loved how easily the directions were. It only took a few weeks to get my DNA analysis. I shared with my results with my family who were also intrigued! Great product for anyone! Especially those with questions about health history in your family!
I was adopted at 9 months old and have little to no information about my heritage or medical history. It was a huge blessing to find out what my nationality is and know with 100% certainty and also be able to get some health reports. I feel like I finally have some certainty of who I really am. 23andMe
It's a little pricey, but worth it if you want to learn more about your heritage and genetics. After I sent in my swab, it took about a month or so for my results to get back. I confirmed some things I knew about my heritage, but found out some surprising information as well. I also found out I'm low risk for some diseases I'd previously been worried about due to a family history. They also have a feature that lets you connect with people found to be related to you, though so far none of my second or third cousins have responded to my messages.
I loved this. All you do is receive a mouth swab through the nail and then send it back. It show my genetic ancestry and after the results came back it connected with ancestry.com and I ended up getting in contact with someone who knew my grandmother as a child and she sent us photos we had never seen before. Not only of my grandmother but other family members who had passed or we had no photos of at all. A test just to know our makeup became something so much more. My grandma cherishes those photos like nothing else. Thank you 23andme.
I have done both 23 and me and Ancestry.com and found the information from 23&me to be far superior. The website and app is better as well. The health information is invaluable, definitely spring for that. I also found out who my bio dad is, as well as that my half sister is my full sister! This is worth the money, but pay attention to sales because if you time it right, you can save a lot.
I received my spit kit and the directions were really easy to follow. I sent it off in the mail and after several weeks finally received my information. I was able to view health reports, DNA relatives and traits as well as download my raw data for genetic counseling at the Dr's, etc. After 2 pregnancies, this has come in SO handy. Part of being healthy is KNOWING, and this test is just another step in my health journey. Not to mention, as a community we are contributing to science. The more data we have, the better the discovery!
I LOVE 23&Me!!!! I found out about my ancestry, and it was super interesting to see what my DNA revealed about me! I feel like you always just think that you are 50% your father and 50% your mother but that's not the case, and that's what 23nMe teaches you.
Also interesting to see random facts like "according to your DNA you think that cilantro tastes like soap!"
Also it's great because they're constantly developing new tests and results that you get updated on even after you send them your DNA sample!
Awesome, worth every cent.

Q & A
Is really worth the money ?
Is there anyway I could get this for free and review it? I have heard nothing but good things!
Always wanted to try one of these similar products....worth it?
Has anyone tried their DNA tests? How does it compare to AncestryDNA? Do you get the ancestry analysis along with the breakdown of genetic predispositions (more likely to need more sleep, have curly hair, like coffee, be good at running, etc) or is it one or the other?
