My favorite DNA webaite. I've done them all it seems but this has the most scientific research about me done. I love finding out things about myself and recently got an email alert about new info on my DNA and a medical issue I could have And I went and got tested and do have it so it's amazing that this service alerted me to get a health screen. I also like how u can connect with so many relatives and see the degrees of separation easily.
I didn't know what to expect when using 23andMe other than for the ancestry portion. The health portion of the test was pretty eye-opening, even for things I already knew about myself. It doesn't quite tell you everything, but it does tell you that you can bring your results to your physician to discuss them.
This has been a very interesting process using 23 and me. I have used it for both health and ancestry. The health portion is constantly updating and checking for new health variants connected to my DNA and letting me know things I need to lookout for, such as I have a generic variant for macular degeneration. This is helpful because I can really do preventative maintenance by starting to focus on eye heath while I am young. So cool.
I signed up for this to find out my bloodlines. There was 40% left to be standard European. That's too big percentage of a random answer for me. I felt it was a waste.
Overall, I would say 23andMe was eye-opening to my family history/background. It was affordable at $79 with a promo discount. I wish the ethnic groups were broken down more specifically for Asians; it seemed Europeans and Africans had more detailed breakdowns. It was worth it, but it's definitely got me yearning for more information about my family history. I can't wait to see what discoveries we'll be able to seek in the future.
Fantastic. Wasn't the speediest of results but the wait was worth it. Very in depth and interesting information. I really appreciate how they broke down the specific regions and loved when they showed where in the world people with the same DNA currently live! I also really appreciated that they broke down when my ancestors of various backgrounds would have lived. I would definitely recommend the service if you're interested in where your ancestors are from.
23andMe really made a difference in my life. I was able to get the DNA kit for free due to having Crohn's disease. The results were able to tell me more about the disease I have myself, and also connect me to others I am related to who have it. It also told me a lot more about my heritage that I never knew!!!
23 and me is a really useful product. I was so excited to use this and discover my traits and possible ancestry. The shipping time was pretty quick for me, however, if you do order this product during a holiday, you could end up waiting up to 2 months. The other con with this product is that it isn't 100% accurate, but with the more DNA that comes into their labs, the more accurate other peoples results will become. It's awesome how they add new things to your profile as time goes on so you can still learn new things about yourself. I definitely recommend this product.
It arrived fast. Results received in 3 weeks which was awesome because average is 5 to 6 weeks. It's gave me a breakdown of each region of nationality my DNA came from for example 59% Irish 1.4 Iberian ect. You can connect with possible relatives that share your DNA. Pretty cool. Now everyone in my family wants to try it.
I absolutely love 23andme. I initially got it at my doctors recommendation, to see how my body would react to certain medications. But I recently discovered the ancestry side and I helped my pappy figure out who his mother was by a DNA relative I connected with on 23andme. I learned things about myself and my family that I never knew and would have never known if it weren't for 23andme. I am so grateful and HIGHLY recommend it!
Q & A
Does this only tell you the area from which you came from? (Eastern Europe, North America) . Or does it specifically tell you a percentage of a specific heritage down to the nationality? (25% italian, 25% czech, etc.). My family and I are originally from the Czech Republic and I've been wanting to get this for my mom as she doesn't have a close relationship with her family and I think it would be awesome for her to do this and I know she would like to. However, I want to make sure it is specific, not vague. I already know the general area...you know?
