Very fast results, and very interesting. Accurate, professional, would definitely recommend. Kit was very simple to use. My only gripe is the customer service for their website was pretty awful. The website was hard to navigate and sharing/comparing with family members and adding people proved to be extremely difficult for me.
Through my university I got to try 23 and Me DNA evaluation service for free. I got my results some time later and it was amazing to see how my heritage was divided up and where my DNA located me in the world. The service is rather expensive since you have to pay for the kit and the lab fees but it's pretty worth it especially if you aren't 100% sure where your ancestors come from. I was already pretty sure where mine came from but seeing the conformation made me happy. The website gives you other information about your DNA too like how likely it is you are to have certain gene traits based on where your ancestors came from, what kind of diseases you're likely to develop or have, etc. I would recommend this to anyone unsure about their heritage or the future health of themselves or possible children.
As a grad student in the sciences, I love knowing my genetic background. This service also includes the raw data, so I can look up new genes and find out extra information.
Very similar to ancestry.com although this company focus more on the genetics behind you family rather than specific people who might be related to you like ancestry.com. I would highly recommend if you interested in your genetic tree.
This was actually really cool and really interesting!! I found out that I'm Iranian and Cherokee Indian along with having ancestors from basque and it's a small village in the mountains of Spain and France!! Along further digging I found out my family actually began this village and that's where my last name comes from!!
Such an interesting analysis and the differences between my genes and my moms and brothers. I also learned I'm 15% of a culture our family didn't even know about!! I recommend this if you have any curiosity about your family lineage.
23andMe was a fun experience for me to try out. It gave a very specific ancestral report and afforded me the opportunity to connect with relatives if I wanted to. My primary issue with it was its last of specificity of West African regions.
I bought on a holiday so it was discounted. I would try the health version next time. I like how it explains where you are from in detail. It is pricey but if you want to know where you are from its very worth it. I would recommend.
The information was very complete but I needed help interpreting results for specific information which was a higher cost to me. Super expensive for what you are given and you kind of need to be an expert to really get value from it.
I've been wanting to do a DNA kit for so long so when I finally got one as a gift I was beyond excited. The process was SUPER simple but the waiting was torture but I guess that's to be expected. The only thing I wish was a little different was that the breakdown was a little more specific like I've seen with ancestry DNA
Q & A
Is really worth the money ?
Is there anyway I could get this for free and review it? I have heard nothing but good things!
Always wanted to try one of these similar products....worth it?
Has anyone tried their DNA tests? How does it compare to AncestryDNA? Do you get the ancestry analysis along with the breakdown of genetic predispositions (more likely to need more sleep, have curly hair, like coffee, be good at running, etc) or is it one or the other?
What are your personal experiences?
