This is a good service and has a reasonable price. I initially used it for ethnic ancestry information but have been able to use the raw DNA data to get more detailed genetic health information via Promethease and other services. Fantastic! Lots of info and you can also participate in their research which helps the science of genetics evolve even more.
I really enjoyed and continue to enjoy the data I get from this service. Everything is really user friendly. I think the price is worth it. It's so accurate that it connected my DNA as a relative to my actual Grandfather and aunt who I didn't even know submitted too. I get updates pretty frequently about other things my DNA has uncovered about myself.
I LOVED my 23andMe experience. I purchased the kit years ago when they first started and was so excited to see my results and show my friends and family. I also was so excited about it that I bought a kit for my husband and mom to use for Christmas. It is so cool how you can see so much information about your heritage and personal body traits.
this is without a doubt one of the best things i could ever spend $200 on! i found out so much about both my genetic health and my ancestral background. i would recommend this product to anyone who is adopted, or even just wants to learn more about themselves as a person!
Bought this for my mom for Mother's Day and she sent it in almost right away! She was so excited! And getting the results back is super interesting! It really breaks down your full DNA history, you can even purchase the medical breakdown at an additional cost! This was a great gift, and it would be great to just buy to satisfy your own curiosity!
I used the 23 and Me health test in order to find out whether or not I was genetically predisposed to getting an autoimmune disorder. As a biologist, I know that these tests are not 100% accurate and that new genetic links are being found every day, but using 23 and me was such a simple and revealing experience that I would recommend it to anybody.
I have wanted to try 23 and Me for a while now and completed it on the advice of my kinesiologist. It really gave me insight into some genetic connections with a gene I have that was passed down through my European side of the family. Furthermore, I found cousins all over the world and found connections I didn't even know existed!
I'm a biology major and we got this done for my class. Getting the results back was so interesting because my family isn't positive on our exact ancestry so it was cool to see what regions I'm probably fun. The trait section is also pretty cool- most of the items are pretty spot on and it's funny to see how curly your hair is or how much coffee you like to drink.
So cool! I decided to go with 23 & Me over Ancestry is because of all the extra stuff you get. You get more than just DNA. I received all the disease I could be prone too and many different things I share with my parents because they decided to do 23 and Me as well. It's interesting to see how you can link everything together and see your lineage.
Purchase this from Target if you don't want to pay for shipping. Ordered it online and picked it up at the store. It was very easy to use...directions were clear. I think the hardest part was spitting in the vial. They keep up to date on the processing and results on their site, which was nice to see. I would definitely recommend this to everyone.
Q & A
Is really worth the money ?
Is there anyway I could get this for free and review it? I have heard nothing but good things!
Always wanted to try one of these similar products....worth it?
Has anyone tried their DNA tests? How does it compare to AncestryDNA? Do you get the ancestry analysis along with the breakdown of genetic predispositions (more likely to need more sleep, have curly hair, like coffee, be good at running, etc) or is it one or the other?
What are your personal experiences?
