This was so much fun to do and now that I have done it more and more of my family is using it! The app is really cool to check out! The estimated timelines that they gave were spot on for me; however, other family members had to wait much longer than they were told to receive their box. I think this is really cool and if you are curious about your family history and think gene and DNA coding is cool I would highly recommend taking the time and money to use this service!
It was great to learn so much about my background and where my family is from. The process was easy and simple all you had to do was spit in a tube and drop it in a mailbox, which is so convenient. The only thing I would've liked more clarification on were the certain areas that just gave a percentage and a general description like "southern Africa" I would have liked to know where exactly. But other wise I would reccommend this to my friends and family for sure
This is probably the coolest thing I could have purchased. I thought I had know what race/ ethnicity I was, but coming upon my results I realized there's many things I didn't know about myself. I think that the genome mapping and ethnicity of recent ancestors is the most interesting part of this service. There's other cool things about this service like carrier status reports, traits and finding relatives all over the world. I highly recommend this worthwhile purchase.
Initially I worried that it was going to be a generic result. Boy was I wrong. I just spat in a cup, provided little to personal information and what I received back really blew me away. There were very accurate with information I knew about my lineage that was almost important for anyone else to link me to. I found out even more. The health information is even more helpful. I strongly suggests everyone do this once. You'll be surprised by what you find.
I recently purchased my DNA/heritage testing kit. Although it was a bit expensive ($180), they provide you with 62 reports about your DNA! You can get a cheaper version but that will only give you information about your heritage. If you upgrade the package then they will test for diseases and/or traits that you may pass on to your kids. I'm very excited to get this kit! Also, if you want to get the kit, check for coupon codes! That'll help you save a few dollars.
23andMe gave my family members and me a great deal of information about our heritage, but also about our health (which I hadn't expected). Even better, as more and more people also take their DNA tests, the information in your profile gets more specific about regions you are from and genetic background. Every so often I get notification that a distant family member has joined that I can contact and learn more about. I definitely recommend this product!
I thought I was going to get more information, than it gave or either the information given was to advance for me to understand, but it did the overall job of what I purchased it for! DNA + Health it was a lil expensive for me with such little information I could actually understand overall I would definitely recommend this service to anyone! Maybe someone with a better knowledge of science/DNA can get more use from this! But I was a tad clueless!
I recommend 23 and me to EVERYONE interested in DNA and health information. I purchased a kit after my boyfriend tried it out and I was able to see how informative it really was. The cost is totally reasonable for the information exchange you get, and they're always processing your profile with newly found genetic abnormality cues to provide you with the most up to date experience possible. Amazing company with such great attention to detail.
23andMe is awesome! I love the ancenstry services that it provides and connecting me family members. I love seeing how alike or different I am from my siblings and what I personally inherited from which parent and what got left behind. But the biggest thing I liked about 23andMe is the access to my raw data that I can then use however I want to check my inheritance of any number of traits through other services. Two words about 23andMe; DO IT
I bought the test because my parents were a little fuzzy on what my ancestry was. When I got the test it was really easy to do and included postage so I didn't even have to buy stamps. It did take a while to get my results back but i'm really happy I did it. I told my extended family about it and my aunts (both adopted) wanted to try it to find out more about themselves and any health issues that may run in their families. Everyone loved it!
Q & A
Is really worth the money ?
Is there anyway I could get this for free and review it? I have heard nothing but good things!
Always wanted to try one of these similar products....worth it?
Has anyone tried their DNA tests? How does it compare to AncestryDNA? Do you get the ancestry analysis along with the breakdown of genetic predispositions (more likely to need more sleep, have curly hair, like coffee, be good at running, etc) or is it one or the other?
What are your personal experiences?
