Really, stridex pads are a no-gimmick ‘you-get-what’s-on-the-box’ BHA pads. I love them. I don’t use them as much as I used to, but really there’s nothing to complain about except it’s difficult to figure out application routines and perhaps they could be stronger. They never stung or burned my sensitive skin, unless I was particularly and dreadfully dry due to another product. I even like to use them on other parts of my body that suffer from acne or bumps.
It was more of a hassle to get a customized formula than you’d expect, and in the end it’s not high-end ingredients, either. My formula was rather odd. It didn’t moisturize my skin that well, and it didn’t seem to help my current acne either. Very subpar.
The whitecast is just downright horrible. The oxide settled into my pores and showed like little white freckles. I once applied some before leaving and my friend asked me if I was alright, because I looked like I was “about to faint” - and I’m already a very pale skin tone. The consistency is very hard to spread evenly - it often gunks up amidst oils and dead skin and dirt. The residue ends up in your hair roots and leaves a line around your face. It did not break me out as easily as other sunscreens (I must be sensitive to a common sunscreen ingredient) but it did still break me out. I’m usually ok if I remove this sunscreen within 3 hours of putting it on, but then... when can you ever use it? It dries very talc-y and thick, so it’s not as slippery or runny as other sunscreens, but this comes with its own problems when trying to apply makeup over it. I appreciate the full spectrum, the physical blockers, and the drier formula, but it is still not the perfect sunscreen, and not usable by many people.
Too drying. My skin reacted badly to the foaming cleanser, as my skins barrier was damage so much that just applying a moisturizer afterwards burned my skin. It rinses off better than the hydrating cleanser, and seems to clean better (maybe too well) than the hydrating cleanser, but the foaming formula is too drying for my sensitive skin.
Ponds cleansing wipes as so far the best I’ve used in my many years. They don’t leave too much residue behind and they don’t break me out. They’re perfect for night owls or traveling. I used to use them daily, for removing eye makeup and face makeup and to replace a cleanser if I didn’t have time for my full routine. I do like to follow a ponds wipe with a toner or astringent afterwards - I don’t think I would use a wipe solo anymore. But they don’t irritate my skin or cause new breakouts which is rare and great.
I would say this is the OG cleansing balm, as it shouldn’t be used alone as a cleanser. It requires another product to go in after it. It glides on great, and feels really cool when you use it, but the oily and greasy residue wrecks havoc under makeup and would never be fixed with all the towels in the world. Also, the pH is much too high for sensitive and dehydrated skin - it’s up there in the 8s I believe. I enjoyed using this for a few years to melt off my makeup and to cool down my irritated, sensitive skin, but I always found myself reaching for another cleanser or toner afterwards. I think this works best as a first cleanser, alongside a good chemical exfoliant and toner routine. I’ve since moved on, but I’m not against returning to it in the future.
I wanted to love this. I really did. Micellar waters were supposed to be a godsend for my sensitive skin and when I travel to areas with hard water. But this product breaks me out horribly, and irritates my sensitive skin. It’s supposed to be a “no-rinse” product, yet I honestly think it leaves residue behind and I would always have to rinse it anyway. I could even feel and see foaming bubble when I used it. Completely defeats the point. My bottle has sat untouched under my counter for a year now, as I refuse to attempt it again.
I purchased this because I had liked Garniers 3-in-1 cleanser scrub and mask in the past, and I like to have a quick and easy scrub in the shower. Unfortunately I found the consistency to be a bit disappointing and unreliable, the granules to be too large and spread out for my taste, and the residue did not wash off as cleanly as I would like. It was alright...but I don’t think it tops the categories as either a cleanser or a scrub, and I won’t be repurchasing.
