Review for Sebastian Professional Preset Conditioner - 1 week, 1 day ago
Beauty Junkie Expert Level 2
This didn’t really work for me as a conditioner whatsoever. It also didn’t work as a styling product either. It didn’t provide any moisture whatsoever, didn’t add any shine like a typical conditioner. On the contrary it felt like my hair was more dry and brittle than usual, it didn’t detangle my hair or make it more manageable, and it didn’t add any volume or shine. It smelled nice, sure. But I really couldn’t put my finger on what it managed to achieve. I get more volume and texture from the texturizing sprays I use which literally take less then 5 seconds to use, and don’t require me to replace my usual hair conditioner so I don’t sacrifice shine, strength, or manageability in my hair routine. If anything, this product made my hair feel worse than it did before using it, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone with even remotely damaged hair even consider using this product. I received this product complimentary from Influenster but all opinions are my own.

Review for Sebastian Professional Reset Shampoo - 1 week, 1 day ago

This shampoo is great for purifying my thin, oily hair from product build up, HOWEVER I do not recommend it for anyone who has naturally dark hair that is color treated or lightened blonde or near-blonde with ashy undertones. This thing (no matter what it says about being color safe) will strip your ashy tones away. It’s taken me weeks of my tried and true purple shampoo to replenish some of my tones back but I know I’ve lost a lot of the work my freshly toned hair had just achieved prior to using this shampoo. A word of caution to my ashy blonde babes. Your hair may be free of buildup but brass will show. I also discourage using this regularly, since even after one use my hair felt much more brittle and dry than usual - and my naturally oily and fine texture is not typically prone to being dry or dehydrated so it was out of the ordinary for me. Overall it’s good for clarifying when you’ve gone overboard and need to lighten your strands but it’s heavy duty stuff so just be careful. I received this product complimentary from Influenster but all opinions are my own.

Review for COOLA Organic Sunless Tan Sculpting Mousse - 2 months, 1 week ago
Beauty Junkie Expert Level 2
Sunless tanning mouses have historically been my favorite form of sunless tanners for their fast application and quick drying abilities. This product does well in both of those aspects, however the pro's unfortunately stop there.

I initially liked how this doesn't have a color guard because I didn't have to worry about staining my sheets or my clothing... but unfortunately it still didn't pass the "white shirt test" because it STILL somehow managed to stain the collars of my white shirt as it developed, even just after 1 application!

Not only that, but the application was patchy even though I followed all of my usual self tanning steps (I've used sunless tanning mouses for YEARS). For reference, I used a Loving Tan mitt for application. It did not develop a deep dark color, but more of a red-toned medium tint. I did not think the red tone complemented my skin tone whatsoever, and I much prefer the green tinted sunless tanners I've used previously that develop more olive-toned tans as opposed to burnt-red ones like this did.

Furthermore, while this did fade evenly, it also faded very quickly within a day or two. The smell was also very typical of a sunless tanner as well.

Overall, the price is certainly not justified and I've used far better sunless tanners in the past that develop deeper and more natural looking tans that last longer and develop more evenly than this did, and cost even less.

Review for COOLA Sport Face SPF 50 White Tea Organic Sunscreen Lotion - 2 months, 1 week ago
Beauty Junkie Expert Level 2
It’s a great lightweight SPF for the face that does not feel like your traditional thick and goopy sunblock. It won’t cause a white cast or make your face smell like SPF, and absorbs decently, however it isn’t my holy grail SPF - at least for my combination skin.

It’s heavily scented and unless you’re a big fan of white tea, it’s not the most refreshing scent ever. It eventually disappears but just know it’s not a light fragrance by any means, even for someone who’s not sensitive to fragrances.

It will, unfortunately, make your skin appear shiny, and does not ever dry down completely. The skin remains tacky for the duration of its wear time, and I find that it actually pills up after anywhere between 1 to 8 hours of wear and a light application. While it does not cause my T-zone to become excessively oily or to produce more oil, it just doesn’t mattify or complement my skin type.

I MUCH prefer the COOLA Mineral Face SPF 30 Unscented Matte Tint Moisturizer which I even use as a mattifying primer underneath my makeup to provide a smooth canvas, in addition to SPF (although less than the SPF 50 of this product).

In addition, this product also caused small breakouts, which I’m not particularly prone to. I don’t have very sensitive skin but just could not tolerate the small bumps and pimples that began surfacing when I began using this.

Overall, I’d recommend it for outings and occasional use that involve known sun exposure, however I would not recommend it for daily use if you have combination skin, or skin that happens to react similarly to it like I did. I’ll probably take it with me if I ever have a beach day or outdoor event, but won’t be using this in place of my holy grail Coola matte tint moisturizer above that keeps me matte and poreless and provides SPF without breaking me out.

Review for COOLA Organic Sunless Tan Anti-Aging Face Serum - 3 months ago
Beauty Junkie Expert Level 2
I applied this serum a few hours after applying all of my other daytime skincare products (regular toner, moisturizing toner, vitamin C serum, and peptide serum) the day I received it, not really thinking much about it. It's a clear, lightweight serum that has a pretty typical self-tanner smell. The smell dissipates pretty quickly and it dries down but remains somewhat tacky for the duration of time it remains on your skin and doesn't ever completely disappear entirely. I never really apply makeup on top of facial sunless tanning products (since I don't like how the color shift affects how I end up looking!) so I can't comment on how makeup appears on top of this product, but I can say this product acts well as a serum - it made my skin appear smooth and hydrated thanks to the hyaluronic acid component, and I looked as though I was glowing, all changes in color aside. I first applied this product around 5pm in the evening, and the next morning when I woke up, my face and neck were honestly 1-2 shades darker than the rest of my body. This isn't your usual "gradual" tanner - they mean business! I looked like someone who applied foundation that was a shade or two too dark for her skin tone. It was insane.

I have to admit, it wasn't the most natural color I've developed with a facial sunless tanner, but it wasn't obnoxiously fake either - I could definitely live with it, given how smooth and well hydrated my skin looked with the beneficial ingredients in the serum (it also has vitamin C and argan oil - 2 ingredients I know my skin has responded very well to in the past)! I love how I can now combine my skincare step with my sunless tanning step, but it should be noted that there is a pretty noticeable tanner smell that lingers throughout the duration of its wear time.

The odd thing is, I’ve tried to replicate these results a few times after my initial experience and haven’t been able to develop ANY color really. Puzzling. Still works as a decent serum but I just haven’t been able to duplicate the results.... all other skincare products unchanged.

All in all, if you get it to work with the formulation of this product as it is, it's easy to incorporate into either my daytime or nighttime routine which adds to the convenience of the product - other facial sunless tanners have traditionally been found in the form of a moisturizer and less easy to incorporate. It should be noted that the color this develops isn’t as natural and is more red-toned/heavily-scented, however, so it doesn’t top my list for facial sunless tanners.

Review for COVER FX Perfect Setting Powder - 3 months, 2 weeks ago

Review for: Perfect Setting Powder - Light more...
This setting powder is a great lightweight, finely milled powder that I found was best used for setting my entire face and locking my more emollient foundations in place and preventing them from sliding around.

It definitely helped the lasting power of my slicker foundations (like my holy grail stick foundation - you know the one that comes in the triangular tube!) but when used to set my under-eye concealer, I found the texture of the powder just too drying. It would tend to emphasize the fine lines and creases of my undereyes, which are probably the driest areas of my oily-combination face. It made my face look cakey when used to set underneath my eyes, so I didn't enjoy this powder in that sense, but when lightly dusted around my face everywhere else, it was fine and didn't make my face look ashy at all, even in 4K pictures and natural light.

I don't have any experience with this product under flash photography, however, and am rarely ever photographed under those conditions so I can't attest to its performance in that arena.

I don't like how messy the packaging is - when you open the sifter top, a lot of the product is already built up in the package even when you first purchase it so getting powder in the air is almost unavoidable. The amount of product you get is absolutely insane and how anyone will ever be able to use this all up is crazy unless they're baking with TONS of it every day.

All in all, it controls my oil well, and prolongs the wear of my foundation but doesn't do so as well as my HG compact powder I have in the chunky pink case made by that Celebrity brand because that stuff goes on flawlessly with even a thin veil and never makes me appear cakey or dried out. I received this complimentary for consideration but all opinions are my own.

Review for amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo - 4 months, 1 week ago

Review for: amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo Mini 1 oz more...
It was decent at soaking up oils without weighing down my hair, with a refreshing powdery scent. It also did not leave any white cast on my dark roots, and it wasn't difficult to rub in and didn't make my hair feel like a sticky or itchy mess... HOWEVER, it felt powdery as heck! Running my fingers through my roots left a noticeable residue on my fingers, as if I'd just touched my setting powder - a total turn off. I liked how my hair still felt light but the fact that I could literally feel it on my head was kind of disgusting.

What I was missing, also, was any volume, and it just didn't make my hair look or feel completely like new or refreshed. On top of that, I felt like I needed to use quite a bit of product to achieve achieve the level of freshness I got, even though I wasn't too oily to begin with, which left me unimpressed.

Overall, it's a step up from drugstore dry shampoos, but still doesn't hold a candle to my HG Detox dry shampoo (nor my 2nd place fave) which gives me all of the above, but with *much* more volume, and with a fraction of the product.

I don't use this as a tinted moisturizer, but more as a poreless mattifying primer and it works AMAZINGLY well for that purpose.

It has little to no coverage to me, so as a tinted moisturizer, it's almost worthless if you're looking for that. It's soft, velvety texture (and even its tint) reminds me of Porefessional, except this is able to keep my oily T-zone clear of any shine literally *all day* while also providing a smooth, even canvas for my foundation.

I used this as a moisturizer/base on the day of my wedding before my makeup artist arrived (yes, I even preferred it OVER my MUFE and YSL primers), since I knew this would be the only thing to keep me matte underneath whatever foundation she would be applying on top of it -- it worked out beautifully.

The sunscreen in this product is just an added bonus for day-to-day use, and it never caused any flashback in any of my wedding day photos.

Review for: G40 more...
It's a close runner up to my holy grail long-wear liquid foundation, EL DW, but it just doesn't make the cut to number 1, and here's why: While the color match is great and oxidation is minimal (G40 is a good match to my DW in 1W2/2W2), the amount of product necessary to achieve truly full coverage is a bit "thick" for my preference, so I feel like my dryer patches are emphasized a bit and tend to appear more cakey than usual, even with properly hydrated and primed skin. These dryer areas are usually around the corners of my nose and right underneath my eyes. Because of the additional product necessary, it just feels overall thicker on my face and doesn't really dry down to a your-skin, transfer-proof finish like EL DW does.

Speaking of finish, the matte but not-dead-flat natural look that it does turn into is beautiful and it dries down quickly, so you don't need a setting powder, similar to DW, but I can tell after a 12 hour day, that my oils are not controlled nearly as well with this foundation as they are with DW. My forehead and nose have visible shine and the oil would require a blot. I also find that this foundation completely vanishes around the tip of my nose (where I have a bad habit of touching) by the end of the day... in a manner that is much more noticeable than with DW.

My powders, however, stick on like GLUE with this foundation - my contour, bronzer, blush, and even HIGHLIGHT are mostly still intact, which is truly remarkable and something I typically do not see, so in that regard this foundation wins.

In addition, I did notice that this foundation transferred quite a bit more than DW does, even from early on in the day, which is a huge bummer so be careful when wiping or hugging!

Overall, if you're okay with having to blot, and truly understand how to moisturize and prime your dry patches well, you may really enjoy this foundation. It's a great longwear option, but it didn't blow me out of the water in terms of perfecting my complexion in any way, even when paired with my other HG primer.

FYI - I found that adding the CoverFX powder just added to the dryness and cakiness. You definitely don't need it with this product!
