Having a hard time getting pumped to workout? Try putting on a playlist! I like to make playlists with upbeat music, especially for my runs. Noise cancelling headphones are great as gyms often play their own overheat music. Wireless headphones are even better as it allows you put your phone in your pocket and listen to your playlists without the cord getting in the way.
My daily routine often consists of some form of cardiovascular exercise (i.e. treadmill). I typically run anywhere between 3-5 miles daily, and occasionally mix in some high interval sprints. A sports bra is a must for support. I find that cute sports bra, like this one with the strap details, makes working out a lot more fun! Champion makes a few cute cuts and comes in fun colors as well. Victoria secret is currently having a BOGO sale on selected sports bras, so you can pick up 2 for $20!
Hydration is key when you're working out. Depending on the intensity of your workout, you may be sweating a lot. It's important you replenish the water in your body to ensure proper bodily function. I am a fan of using Camelbak Water Bottles while at the gym for one reason...the straw. It makes hydrating yourself very easy. No need to unscrew a cap, drink and cap the bottle back. It also comes in handy when you want a sip of water, but don't want to stop running whether you're on the treadmill or elliptical. Just a quick tip to make sure you frequently clean the mouthpiece!
Need a quick energy boost before or after a workout? My go to is the Nature Valley bars. They're quick and affordable and come in a variety of flavors so you'll never get tired. I'm also a big fan of peanut butter! I tend to schedule my workouts right before a big meal, so I don't have to pack on the extra calories. But these are great for if you're exercising in between meals and just want something delicious for energy. You can also crush them up and sprinkle them on top of some greek yogurt for some extra flavor!
In actuality, any yoga mat will do. Pick a print of your liking. For comfort, choose a thicker mat. Stretching is an important step before and after a work out. You want to make sure your muscles are loose before partaking in any rigorous activity to prevent "pulling a muscle." I guarantee you'll be more comfortable or work out longer if you stretch before hand.
Many people tend to forget to stretch post-workout, and I know I was once guilty of that. Not only does stretching make you feel better, it actually speeds up the recovery process post-workout. One reason is that stretching helps eliminate the build up of lactic acid in your muscles after you work out! Your stretches don't have to be too intricate, a few minutes of downward dog, cobra, etc. Just make sure you spend time stretching the body parts you focused most on that day.
I always follow my workouts with a shower after I cool down. Often times, people worry about washing off the sweat from their body, they neglect their face. Don't be that person!
I like using a mild cleanser without exfoliating beads. The soy face cleanser is great for washing away those impurities (i.e. dirt and sweat), without stripping my skin of moisture. (Remember to hydrate yourself as well). If you're one of those people who like to wear make up to the gym, (hopefully not because makeup can clog your pores especially when you're partaking in high impact activities that make you sweat) this cleanser can also wash off any light coverage foundation or smudged mascara.
You want to make sure your skin is looking healthy while your working on improving your overall physical health!
