Review for: Raw Chocolate, Toasted Truffle more...
I love these! I bought them at CVS but I recommend buying from Target for a cheaper price unless CVS has a sale.
Formula— 5/5 * These come out a creamy-matte finish, more on the matte side. They are not drying whatsoever and feel light on the lips. They have great color payoff and actually cover any chapped areas or small scabs on your lips without settling into fine lines. My lips are often dried and cracked in the winter and these don't make that a problem, especially if I put some chapstick underneath first.
Staying Power— 5/5 * the longest-lasting solid lipsticks I've tried. They last me throughout the school day, sometimes without having to reapply, or with one reapplication if I ate greasy food. It also fades evenly and doesn't become patchy as it fades; only lighter.
Color— 5/5 * Toasted Truffle and Raw Chocolate are universally flattering, I feel. They're great for my medium skin tone because they're beautiful but not too vampy or dark. I can wear them with or without other makeup. They'd be great nudes for darker skin or suit more formal or dressy occasions for fair skin.
Packaging— 3/5 * The functional aspects of the packaging present no problems. However, my only gripe is that the colored cap and the color indicator sticker on the bottom don't always accurately reflect the true color of the product. In reality, raw chocolate is much lighter with a pinky undertone while toasted truffle has a brown undertone and is darker. However, the color of their packaging definitely suggests the opposite. I would swatch, try, or watch youtube swatches before buying just to make sure you're getting a color you want!
I feel like the formula for this slightly differs depending on the shade. I've used Quenched, Peach Kiss, Coral Crush, and Strike a Rose.
Formula— Quenched and Peach Kiss were most effective in providing moisture. The product actually absorbed into my chapped and cracked lips and smoothed them out within a week of use. Coral Crush and Strike a Rose were moisturizing but only slightly; it seemed like the moisture was a little greasy and surface-level and refused to truly sink into my skin.
Color— Peach Kiss is a sheer universally flattering nude. Coral Crush adds a great brightening effect to your lips. Strike a Rose was a little to neon for me.
Packaging— I think the packaging is just okay. I don't really care how product packaging looks; only how well it works for utilitarian purposes. For these, the caps seem to come a little loose (but not enough for the product to fall out) after a few months of removing and replacing. If you drop them, the caps may break (happened to my Peach Kiss), causing the product to fall out in your purse or backpack. Be careful not to drop it and you'll be fine!
I have combination skin and sort of small under-the-skin blackheads. I have seen reviews where this worked on more prominent blackheads but mine are so small and buried under that perhaps this was not the best product choice for me. Otherwise, it’s pretty easy to use and in terms of cleansing and oil control, I found it effective.
My only other gripe would be that when you apply it with a damp cotton ball, more product seems to stick to the cotton than to your face. It seems like a bit of a waste in this sense.
Was pretty moisturizing but it doesn’t have the greatest smell. I don’t mind the scent (it just smells like olive oil), but if you’re looking for a perfumey-scented lotion or a completely unscented lotion this might not be the way to go. The moisture level isn’t extraordinary but it does it’s job better than the average body lotion.
