Always looking for a new nutritious snack, funky sports bra, or other health and wellness surprise. Willing to give any book a try and already have a love affair with anything historical fiction, girl-power biography, and unashamedly anything with a love triangle. Never met a lip stain I didn't like, and if left on a deserted island with only two things, I would survive with a book and mascara. I wholeheartedly believe thank you cards can change the world, and swoon over all things papery organization. Finally, a logophile: forever collecting words--beautiful, powerful, wonder-working words.
I was pleasantly surprised by Lancôme L'Absolu Lacquer Longwear Lip Gloss in many ways: distinct buildability, non-drying formula, smudge resistance, and great staying power! Also a plus in my book (though I know not for some) is that it does transfer just a little. I really can’t say enough good about the wearable formula and beautiful shine! I would liken it more to a buildable gloss than a stain, except that it does actually stain my lips—even against my toughest makeup remover! While that’s not a deal breaker for me, I did accidentally get some on a shirt and was not able to fully remove the stain with any of my stain removers or at home tricks. This product performs in every area except maybe accident/clothing stain insurance, so it gets high marks from me! I received this product complementary for testing purposes.
While this product is ultimately not for me, I do my best to outline both its strengths and weaknesses objectively below. I tend to have considerably sensitive skin, especially when it comes to the skincare I employ, so I was a little leery about some of the items on this Lancôme Hydra Zen Gel Cream Anti-Stress Gel Moisturizer ingredient list, specifically the fragrance. My best attempt at describing the fragrance would be be that it somewhat resembles an older womans perfume—though it does have notes of the “rose” scent that seems to be really “in” right now. It’s much more pungent than what I would expect from a product advertised as having “sensitive” and “zen” qualities. The fragrance wouldn’t necessarily be a deal breaker, though it would take a concerted effort to try to ignore, but unfortunately, the moisturizer also caused small breakouts on my forehead and chin. While I wouldn’t describe the breakouts as really bad—few white head and other small bumps like “heat bumps”—it was clear that my sensitive skin was reacting adversity to this product for one reason or another. (For reference, I tried this product on several occasions for quality control, always with the above mentioned result.) Ultimately, this product is not for me; I would advise other moderate-to-severe sensitive skin users to proceed with caution. (That said, a consolation may be the toner in this same line, which is a more mild formula I did not react to, so if you’re just wanting to try this product line, that might be a good place to start.) Other skin types may very well enjoy this product— pretty container, nice gel consistency— but it is one such product a Sensitive Sally like myself simply cannot withstand. I received this product for free for testing purposes.
I tend to have considerably sensitive skin, especially when it comes to the skincare I employ, so I was a little leery about some of the items on this Lancôme Tonique Confort Comforting Rehydrating Toner ingredient list, specifically the fragrance. After using the product for a few days at a time on a couple of occasions, I’m overall fairly pleased with the result. The consistency of the product is unique and one of its strengths in my opinion—just slightly thicker than a typical toner liquid, but not not as think as a gel or creme; which seems to contribute to a more substantial hydration with more staying power than the water-like consistency of other toners. Additionally, it still dries fairly quickly, so as to not hold up the moisturizer step that will likely follow. A slight drawback of this product for me is the fragrance—both as an ingredient and the actual smell. Though the smell isn’t bad, it’s more pungent than what I would expect from a product advertised as having “sensitive” and “zen” qualities, though the toner is more mild in fragrance than the accompanying moisturizer in the same product line. (I’ll mention that I use primarily simple skincare, so I am typically more accustomed to a milder fragrance.) While I’m personally not particularly fond of a rose scent, this product certainly has notes of that rose fragrance, which seems to be really “in” right now. All in all, I am pleased with the product; I received it complimentary for testing purposes and will continue to use it, as it has not caused any adverse reactions in my sensitive skin—though I’ll likely aim to mask the strong-ish fragrance by following with my more mild fragranced moisturizers overtop.
Collagen Peptides Powder Though this is the first collagen powder I have tried, I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve used it in coffee, açaí bowls, and smoothies and it has contributed little to no altering of the taste of these items. Only mildly could I taste a difference in my coffee—a slightly “nuttier” taste— and I quite liked it! (Turned my vanilla creamer into a kind of hazelnut!) It also dissolved quickly so it doesn’t leave any weird texture or residue. As for the physical benefits, I think it may still be too soon to determine this product’s impact. That said, I’ve not been able to use it but a couple of times a week, so maybe with more frequent use, benefits will become more pronounced. I look forward to exploring new ways to use this product in a variety of drinks and snacks! I was provided this product for free for testing purposes, and am now more inclined to try similar products.
Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 will forever be my post-cleanse, pre-moisturize step in my nightly skincare routine. It is mild in fragrance and doesn’t burn or immediately feel like it’s drying out my skin like other toners I’ve tried. The formula it’s self even feels a little more “silky” that other similar products, making for smooth, calming application—which seems to begin to lay a perfect foundation for the moisturizing to come. All that said, this product isn’t just applicable as part of a standard routine— I use it on the go, after workouts, and just anytime I feel like My skin needs a quick freshening up. Truly a quality and versatile product to have!
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II was the first eye serum I ever used, thus, instilling an understanding of the importance of serums in one’s skin care routine. Not only was the formula smooth for easy application to the delicate eye area, but I truly felt that my eyes were more moisturized and rested on the morning than before I’d started using the product. The fragrance was somewhat odd, but mild and not off putting, and I loved the applicator, as it allows for easy measuring of the amount to be used. I loved how it made my eyes feel so much that I started using it all over my face!
Kat Von D Everlasting Lip Liner (in color lolita) exceeded my expectations in both applications and wear. I love how effortlessly it glides on and the wear time is out of sight! Having tried it on several occasions--all day affairs and one including taco night!--I'm amazed at the staying power. The best part: NO feathering even after I apply a gloss overtop. I wear it almost every day under a variety of lipsticks or all by itself, and it lasts all workday and even through my evening workout! Truly a great product and my new and forever go-to liner.
In my younger years, I might have found face wash shopping exciting, but I’ve since developed very sensitive skin not conducive to trying all the latest face wash fads. For the past 5 years, Olay Gentle Clean Foaming Face Cleanser For Sensitive Skin has been my tried and true. It is gentle on my sensitive skin while still easily washing away the day’s makeup. My husband uses it too so we go through it pretty quickly. Luckily, it’s also very reasonably priced. I can still hang with the best of them when it comes to beauty product shopping for the next big thing, but I’ll never be looking further than Olay for my face wash needs.
I cannot say enough good about Laura Geller Spackle Under Make-up Primer. It is so aptly named as it truly functions as spackle of sorts, filling in and smoothing out any skin inconsistencies. Further, it has SPF 30 protection and a “just-right” amount of shimmer. I wear it every single day whether I’m wearing makeup or not, but don’t get me wrong—it’s also an excellent primer. Only a product named “Spackle” could really tackle the industrial job of a daily glow with sun protection that also happens to be a killer primer. This product is truly my most prized triple threat!
